Sony 36brx800 shuts off on own

As a TV tech the simple answer is no! If you were a well qualified electronics tech but just not used to TV's then the answer might be a very weak 'maybe' and that's if you had a TV tech talking you thru the whole process on the phone.

shutdown probs can be the power supply, bad solder joints, or also very likely the high voltage power supply. Meaning the area where the TV generates upwards of 30 thousand volts!! The set has overvoltage protection that makes sure that things don't completely fry, catch on fire etc.

Ya really need special training to avoid getting zapped with tazer like volts or worse! Sorry but safety says better stay out of this one!

My television screen size keeps changing when on

Hi, You have selected "native" in the video menu which means it will switch to exactly the format being broadcast, like a full screen on a movie and then four inch bars on the sides for a commercial. Change your video setup to display a format other than native. It will still switch if your satellite box has these options as well, so check both. Good Luck, hope this Fixsya!

Sony Triniton xbr

The continuous blink code indicates some failure in communication between the computer in the set and the big signal-processing chip that controls most of the TV's video functions. Since the set fell, it's probably due to a either cracked circuit board or a broken picture tube.

If the board is cracked, it might repairable if the broken circuit traces can be found and patched. If the tube is broken (because the shock of the fall cracks the glass neck of the tube and allows air to leak in), it's time to replace the TV.

There's really nothing you can do on your own to fix this. Your best bet is to see if a professional can come out and give you an estimate. (Or use this as an excuse to get new flat-screen which would take up a lot less room!)

My 32'' sony wega blinks 5 times

The 5 blinks means a problem in the set's AKB (auto kine-bias) circuit. Sony TV's monitor the operation of the picture tube. When some kind of trouble has been detected, the TV blanks the screen and flashes the 5 blink error code. This may be due to problems in the video circuit, a bad picture tube, or adjustments that have changed due to aging of parts. There isn't anything I can suggest you try on your own to fix it. Because several things may cause the problem, and the proper tools and service information needed to troubleshoot, you should refer this repair to a professional.

Sony trinitron xbr red diagonal lines appears then screen turns

In cannot remember if this model of set uses on the CRT drive board a drive IC for the CRT colour channels, or if it uses descrete transistors. I have had component failure on this board that causes your description. The failure in your case would be with the red channel drive. Most of the time I had the semiconductors fail, and some of the support components.

Most of the time, a failure on this board is caused by some intermittant internal arching inside of the CRT. If this happens, the CRT is starting go defective.

Another cause of this fault is that the CRT is starting to go internaly shorted between the control grid and screen grid. As it heats up, the shorting becomes lower in resistance, and thus causes the pricture to go brighter until the protection turns it off. This would be with the red electron-gun.

With any failure with the CRT, the set is not worth to fix even if you can find a CRT for it.

Standby blinks seven times

There are many details involved to check the set. The process is beyond the practicality of an email.

You will need the service manual, a DVM, and depending on the circumstances you will need a scope.

The service manual may still be available from Sony.

Most of the time in these models of set, this type of fault is a failure in the scan amplifier sections; mainly in the horizontal output section. If this is the case, there may also be some damage in the power supply.

Sony KV-36xbr800 led flashes 5 times ??????

A common cause is the HV multiplier module is failing. Sometimes a failing CRT can cause this type of fault. There are other support components that can be going out of spec with age.

Considering the age of the set, I would be looking for a newer set. If you invest money in to this set, there is no guarantee that in a number of months from now there may be other faults.

TV would not Turn On

These sets have internal diagnostic capability and should cause the standby light to blink when it fails to start properly. Can you count the blinks and post that number here? That will indicate the problem circuit and allow us to give you some potential solutions.

Thanks,

Sony 36XBR800 Standby light flashes ...no picture sound

Hello,

For 6 blinks,Pls check following area.

Low HV Shutdown:
On the D Board.
Check IC8004/pin 7 should be 7.4v.
Check IC8006/pin 2 should be 2.5v if lower will trigger shutdown by causing pin 1 to turn on.
Check IC8006/pin 3 reference voltage 2.2v.
IC8006/pin 1 normally at 0v. If high
turns D5007 ON which turns the latch circuit Q6532,
Q6530, and Q6527 ON and turns the AC relay RY6501 OFF.

And NOTE: 6 blinks also can be Low B+ protection.

Unregulated 7.5 v from the power supply to 5v reg IC504 on the A Board. 5v to M Board Q2314

to CPU IC2300/pin 43. If 5v missing set will shutdown with 6 blinks.

I think this will help you to solve the issue.

Dont forget to Rate!!

Good Luck

Sony KV36XBR800 standby blinks 4 times

The 4 blinks usually mans that there is no vertical deflection signal. Look for a small flat Ic with about 11 pins that may be marked LA7837 or something similar. Resolder the pins on that first. If that fails to resolve it, replace the IC.

Keep me posted.

KV 36XBR800

About 5 years ago, I was servicing many of these sets under a warranty service contract. This series of set is fairly complex to work on. It takes a very experienced tech who knows this model series very well to work on these.

After 4 to 5 years it is very possible that the picture tube (CRT) may be weak, and there can be fault conditons in the power supply and scan circuits. Most of the time, these sets are not feasable to service when out of warranty and there are major component failures. Considering that it is a CRT set proprietary replacement parts are not usually available from the manufactures. CRT sets are no longer being produced.

Technicaly, if you want to pay the cost and if the proprietary type replacement parts can be found, your set can be serviced by an experienced Sony service technician. When your set was in production a new factory replacement CRT alone was in the price range of $1200. This does not include the 3 to 4 hours of labour to replace it. If the flyback and horizontal output transistor has to be replaced along with a number of capacitors, you can add on at least another $300 to $500 minimum. Out of the shop a CRT job with a repair can cost about 1/2 the price of its new value!

For much less than what you say you paid for your set, you can get a new LCD or Plasma HDTV for about 1/2 of what you paid. Believe me, if you go for a high end Plasma or Sony set of today it will outperform your CRT set.

Hitachi tv

Your question is very vague. The reason is that there are many components in a TV set that can cause no sound or picture.

The main thing that is in common is the main power supply. In your set, a failure of the horizontal scan amplifier will also cause no picture or sound, because its secondary side supplies power for most of the TV's operation.

Tv does not turn on

The power supply is in the protect mode. This is most likely a scan amplifier failure. Most of the time it would be in the horizontal output section. If the CRT is shorted, or there is a failure in the vertical section, this type of error will show. When there are scan amplifier failures, sometimes the power supply is also damaged and requires service.
