Sony FD Trinitron WEGA started changing channels

it is a rare problem ..... only after opening & observing all circuit boards one can tell whether it can be repaired or not .... if on any circuit board at any IC or transistor if board has become brownish or blackish colour then either that component is gone or there connection is loose ........ on observing carefully if we find cracks at soldering joints of that particular component then your tv problem can be solved by just resoldering those joints carefully ...... if no such cracks are found means then those particular components where board has become brown or black has to be checked ...... so in your case only after opening backside cover & observing circuit board one can say problem is minor or major - can be repaired or not .............since sony is very good brand before going for new tv just ask some technical person ( may be any of your friend or a local tv service engineer ) to observe all circuit boards of your tv & give his opinion .........

I have a sony trinitron wega - I know it is old

Actually, the TV is only a display device. It's just there to show you the picture from the PVR, and you're free to pick any model PVR with the features you want and a price you like. The only thing you need to be concerned about is connecting the PVR to the set.

Your Sony should have audio and video input jacks on the rear panel. (I'm assuming you have a Sony since your question is posted under that heading, but that's not always the case.) Almost every model has at least one set. These older models usually only offer composite video input with a single yellow RCA jack, and a pair of jacks (red and white) for stereo audio input. When you pick a PVR, just be sure it has a composite video output available. I haven't seen one yet that doesn't, but there a lot of models out there. If your model also happens to provide a component video input (with three RCA jacks, colored red, green and blue), that's even better. Component video gives better performance, and it's a standard output on PVRs and other video devices.

All you need to do is connect the PVR video output to the TV and select that input. You can connect the audio output to the TV, or use your home stereo receiver and speakers instead if you have a system. This might give you enhanced sound performance.

If your TV is a model not equipped with AV inputs (true for some very basic models, especially smaller screen sizes), you'll need an RF modulator. The TV can only pick up signals from its tuner, and that's where the modulator comes in. It takes the video and audio from the PVR and makes a channel 3 or 4 signal to the TV's antenna input. You might find a PVR with a modulator built in, but that's pretty rare now.

Sony trinitron WEGA won't turn on and standby

Unfortunately, what you're describing is a repair issue. You won't be able to address the problem with troubleshooting. There is a part inside the TV that needs to be replaced. If you're under warranty, this will cost you nothing. If you're not under warranty the cost will likely be a minimum of $200 parts and labor. However, be warned that the cost could be considerably higher.

Visit the link below so you can talk to Sony either on the phone or via online chat for your full range of options.

Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service. 1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. 3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue. 4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem. 6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set. 7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced. 8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset: Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved. Turn off the television. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Sony tv wont start up???

The flashing should be a repeated number of blinks. Please post that count as that will indicate the circuit in which the set detected a problem. The set is in protective shutdown. Using hte blink count, we can determine the possible problem and solutions.

Hello
Your TV has degaussing problem I thinks. There is a coil fitted around the screen, through which an AC supply is fed each time when you switch on the set, and it will last only for about 3 microseconds or so, to demagnatize your picture tube. In specific timing is accieved by the help of a "Posistor" usually called as degassing posistor. If it fails to work, the fault you have mentioned will occur. If you turn your TV in an other direction, say if it is paced east-west, turn it to south-north, the colour change now you see will be in an other state.
You just open your TV. The said posistor can be located on the power section of your TV. It will be normally black in color, looks very like a small chocolate. There are two types of posistors are used by Sony. One type has only two connections, and the other have three. You just replace it, it is very easy job. Just desolder it out, and go for a same type of posistor. It is quite normal fault in all TVs. OK.

Sorry if this posts twice. I think I might have

Hello

There are two causes for this problem. One is related with green output transistor, and the other is to chroma Ic. The most common cause is with the transistor said above. You just check the video output voltage points at picture tube base board. There are three cathodes may be marked as R,Gand B. In trinitron picture tubes, these pins are pin number [8 Blue KB], pin number [9 Green KG] and pin number [10 Red KR]; and the voltages must come approximately equal to KR=154, KB=155, and KG=163, and the main video output voltage goes to these transistors will come around 225VDC. These are not accurate voltages tor refer. It may vary by 2% to set by set. All the three transistors used will be identical in number, and usually found 2SC3271N. In your TVs case, green cathode voltage may be very low from the fault stated above I thinks. When cathode voltages goes low, emission of that cathode will increases, and colour of that cathode will be predominent. You just check these voltages, and check the main video input voltage said above too. There are three resistors of 2W fitted to the the main video voltage and collector of each transistor said above; and if any one,say the resistor fitted to green output transistor collector is faulty, or open or loose sodered, the voltage at the green cathode [pin-9] will be low causing this problem. If the transistor said above gor a leak with collector to emitter will also may the cause.
Just check it. Normally this base card of Sony TVs are marked C board. If all the transisors are found okl, and still the problem perisits, the fault must be in the Chroma Ic. It may need replacement.
In practice,I found this fault to be due to bad solderings in the base card. You just check it first and go forward.
If any doubts, contact me through Fixya. OK.

Hello- I've had a few power outages My WEGA keeps

It may seem like sleep mode, but what it actually is would be low power mode.
Your voltage may not be sufficient to power the set properly and overheating occurs.
This is sometimes confused with sleep mode which has a different set of warning flashes than sleep mode from the LED light though they are the same color.
I would have the power checked on your outlet before attempting to repair the set.
I'm almost willing to bet that it reads at 90+ volts AC Rather than the rated voltage of 110 or better.

My television no longer accepts

Hello
If your TV doesn't accept remote control signals, the infrared remote sensor inside your TV may fauty, or it doesn't gets proper voltage to work. I don't know the way you have tested your remote contol for infrared emission. Any way do this check once more. You must have a cellphone with camera option. Put it in camera mode, place your remote control in front of the its lens a little apart from it, and press all buttons on your remote to see there is any infrared signal comes from it and all buttons are working or not. Most cellphone cameras can detect infrared rays, and will show its indication of its screen.
If this test is Ok, then proceed. Take all precautions we take while working with an electrical equipment. Since as high as 27KVDC [27,000 volt DC] points are there inside your tv, you must be very carefull. Open the back cover of your TV, pull out the main board, usually slipped in, towards front. You can locate the infrared sensor there in the board, diretly solderleld to it. Usually it have 3 legs, with one leg is a little apart from the other two. Check whether there is some voltge on its leg points. One of them is earthed [connected directly to negative], and usually the center one is its supply point. That point must get about 5vDC. In some Sony sets the supply point will be at the end pin. If there is voltage mentioned above, surely it is damaged. if there is no voltage find out the reason for that. It may be due to some loose soldering, or resistor failure. If there is votage, sensor may be defective. Resolder it and take it out from the mainboard and go for the same type and number. Its number will be printed on it [usually laser printed]. Insist on the same number and type. Never use other numbers, since Sony has special circuts and charcteristics for their components.
Ok Wish you success.

My sony tv model no.kv-32fs100 screen goes black

Hello
If your TVs sound is Ok, and there is no picture means there is some fault in the horizontal output section inside the circuit bord of your tv. No Extra High Tension Voltages are generated in it. It may be due to Horizontal Output Transformer, usually say as [LOT], or its drive circuit, or line drive transformer failure. You can check if [EHT] that is Extra High Tension Voltage is genrating inside your TV or not.
Place your forearm parellel to the outer surcace of the picture tube, at about 2cm apart from it, and switch on your TV. If there is EHT geterated inside, the hairs of your forearm will be attracted towards the surface of the picture tube, and you can feel it. If it is not, there will be no attraction.
[1] If it is:- there is no screen voltage is coming to your picture tube. In most of Sony TVs the screen voltage is coming from one point in the printed circuit board, and its adjustment control is placed on the base card of the picture tube. Focus votage and screen voltages can be adjusted.
[2] If it isn't:- Your TVs LOT mentioned above has got damaged. LOT damage is is a general case in all TVs. Some times the driver transistor which drives the LOT also may also get damaged.
You just unplug your TV from wall socket, and open its back cover without damaging anything. Point out the horizontal drive transistor, usually can be seen very near to the LOT, screwed into a heatsink metal. Without touching any inside part, power on your TV. Wait for 2 minutes or so. Just power off and unplug it from the wall socket, and touch with your bare had on the transistor heatsink. If LOT is shorted, the transistor will be very hot during this time, and an "Ishhhh" sound also will be heard. If you have sufficient equipments, desolder and take out the horizontal output transistor mentioned above, and check it for collector to base leak. If it is leaky replacing it with same type and number will solve the problem. Anyway it should be replaced along with LOT replacement. Therefore just do it first. If the replaced one also overheats, surely LOT is damaged and it should alo be replaced with same type and number. If there is no heat in the transitor and if no hissing sound is heard from the LOT side, check for its [LOTs] supply voltage. It shoud be around 135 to 140VDC in 32" Sony sets. If there is no voltage, just track the circut print for any crack or have any series resistor failure.
If there is supply voltage to LOT and still it seems not working, come towards the Line Drive Transformer. It is a small transformer can be seen on the circuit board diretly soldered to it. If its winding gets opend, there will be no frequency [15625Hz] to drive the Horizontal Output Transistor. For all these checks you must have a multimeter and a soldering iron in hand.
Please remember how the TV was shut down. If it is during on working, and a sudden faulure it was, surely LOT is faulty. There is no doubt about it. Anyway take precautions before opening the back cover. Keep children away from you and let an adult beside you too. As much as 27KVDC [27,000VDC] points are there inside your tv. It is dangerous to touch. You can see that voltage wire, which comes from the LOT, and connected to the top side of the picture tube, seems to be sticked with a rubber boot to it. Never go nearby its side any part of your body.
you must have some skill, causiousness and more patience to do this work. Otherwise get help of any experience technicians for this job.
If you feels any difficulty; please inform to Fixya, and they will give me alerts. I'm here thousands of miles away from you and trying to solve your problem by understanding from some words of yours you remember. Anyway wish you sucess. Take care.
