Hi,

Most of this error code, vertical output IC(IC1509) is the caused of the symptoms. You have to test also the vertical pulse buffer transistor (Q1505) if faulty using the multimeter.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

This is a set first made in 2001---if colors are skewed and will not adjust in the customer mode (convergence) you have a convergence circuit problem.

This set uses two of the STK-392-150 convergence IC chips--both need to be replaced and the set adjusted. Sometimes there will be either a fuse or resistor around them that is bad--for the most part just both chips need to be replaced.

Most shops get 300 or more for this repair but you can buy a pair of chips on EBAY for under 14 dollars plus shipping.

If you or someone you know can do it I can tell you everything you will need to do it and give general instructions on how to get at the chips and replace them.

Here is a picture of a similar model with the same problem:

a5a0f2c.jpg Not all sets with this problem look exactly the same.

This photo was provided to me by a customer who I repaired the set for and shows a typical convergence problem in this type of TV.

If this information has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

If you want to know where to get the parts and also what is needed for the repair---let me know and I will post the needed items first and the instructions also.

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

2c07611.pngSolution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I

Hi and welcome to fixya.

To answer your question;
Those convergence i.c numbers are STK392-150 .
But if you are into repairing your convergence circuit then perhaps i may have a suggestion,
It is very common to have resistors and/or picofuses burn along those convergence i.c`s, so just replacing the i.c`s may have little visible effect as they will be missing some the the needed operating voltages.

So you may consider buying a kit that would supply all the parts you may need along with instructions.
Here is a website that sells a kit for your model;
http://www.tvrepairkits.com/xcart/home.php?cat=1487

Note that i`m not working to sell any parts, just though that it may make your life easier.
Hope this help and happy holidays.

Double image and 3d color

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

Double image with mixture of color red and blue

There are 2 convergence IC's that will go out over time that will need to be replaced. There may be a pico fuse and possibly some resistors that will have to be changed as well. There has to be quite a bit of testing done before hand, and quite a bit of setup afterwards so you may want to hire a technician to do it. Our shop gets around $250 - $300 to do a convergence job like this one.
