Yes this set can be Fixed it is a common repair. You need to replace Both of your convergence ICs
They are Big Black ICs and will have Part Number on them example STK 392-110
Mats Electronics has ICs 1-800-628-1118
You will also need to check the pico Fuses that are in Front and back of ICs they look like resistors but will be Yellow or Green 5amps -7amp pico fuses make sure they are OK.

There are two possibilities for this fault with Sony Projection tVs. The first is with the lamp itself. The second one is with the lamp ballast baord. Replace the lamp ballast board first. Because, it there is any internal winding short in the inverter transformar of the ballast board this type of fault can occur. you have to replace the ballast baord along with the new lamp anyway. Therefore, replace the ballast board first. If this help you, there is no need ot replace the lamp. Picture of the ballast included here for you to compare.
If replacing the ballast dis not help you, change the lamp too. OK.

The picture turning reddish indicates the red CRT is failing. Sony does not make the CRT Assemblies available anymore. What they want you to do is to send the red CRT assembly to them, (this includes the Optical Coupler), so they can mount a new red CRT on that Coupler and send it back to you. This runs about 300.00 a CRT and you have three of them. I mention this because if the red is failing, the blue and green CRT's are not too far behind. With the price of LCD sets falling, I do not think it would be economical to fix it.

My screen is blinking consistently
It is my professional opinion is to have a technician come out and diagnose it properly. I have repaired several of these models with an intermittent short in the picture tubes. You are correct questioning "How could they get out of alignment"...They DON'T. When the G2 or screen controls have to be adjusted it is to compensate for the picture tubes getting weak. Sony did have problems in that year with bad tubes.

Should be loss of vertical output. Could be output IC, loss of drive from A board, or loss of power supply to vertical out IC.
Probably need a shop. Not too bad of problem to fix, though.
No Audio & Video red light blink continously.
hi first of all u should check ur transistor connections.Check your Horizontal and vertical output transistors.You should also check the horizontal and vertical yoke connections as well as your low voltage regulators.... if any of these got damaged u should purchase a new one.. but try to purchase with the help of a tv service assistant...thank u!!!

If the video cuts in and out, chances are the Screen trimpots are not centered correctly in their proper range, relative to each other.
Sony does a balancing act whenever the set is turned on - there is a white line at the bottom of each CRT, and the current drawn on each gun must match the others, at least within a given range. If one is too high or too low or in any way vastly different from the others, the set will not allow images to hit the screen, they will stay blanked indefinitely, until the Screen trimpots are rebalanced correctly.

there's a lot of talk in the internet that the pots in the front of the tv will take these (horizontal?) lines out . i have the kp-57hw40, and there is a web site with pictures on making the adjustment. i believe the bottom 3 pots are blue, green, red going from left to right. mark the pots first so you know where you started, and they say it takes just a hair adjustment counter clockwise to remove the lines. Only go to the point the lines disappear. web site shows how to get front cover off via two screws hidden in bottom and then take off the cardboard cover to get at pots. Not to be smart, but don't be careless, keep hands out since there are high voltage circuits just inside there. . . .

does the led flash when you try to power it up? If so let me know the number of flashes. From your description I would suggest 1 of 2 things happened. (1) The Convergence amp ICs have shorted and blown the 5 amp fuse on the G board, or (2) the red CRT has shorted shutting the set down. Check the fuse and if blown replace the fuse and disconnect the Red CRT PC board from the RED CRT and try powering up the set. If it powers up without shutting down then unplug the set and rehook the RED crt pc board and try again if it shuts down the reds shorted. But if it still wont start with the CRT unhooked or blows the fuse Change the Convergence ICs

I don't have the XBR, but on my sony, using the cable box remote, I had to go into menu/display/etc. and mark the 1080i, 720p, and 480i settings. you usually get a "if you can see this" comment if your tv accepts the settings. for standard tv i set the screen to normal, and when the upper channels go to HD, they auto go to full screen. Sounds like you are using the component cable, and also make sure you are on the video port of remote, and the the TV input. The above worked for mine. Hope it helps.
