kp-53HS30, red blue green are not focused, seems like a 3D images..pictures is bright clear with slight curves verticly, turn on great..is this a convergence problem? are ther chips that can be replaced? are pictures avalaible to the location of these chips? does any know of where to free download service manuals? please help
Its nice to save money but unless you know what you are doing and have the right soldering equipment its best to leave this to a pro. you can open your tv and inside there are two large ics labeled STK 392-xxx those are where the problem is , however with sony tvs there are fuses that need to be replaced and possibly some resistors,. have a tv shop repair your tv. Picture appears "wavy" on top and bottom of screen
These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.
When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.
Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...
Problem #1) Convergence
Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...
*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound
Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.
Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....
*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture
You can see some more examples and find a fix using this link on Fixya http://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull

how to clean behind the screen. there is cobwebs and dirt showing when the tv is on. making a bad picture thanks deb
The safe and easy way to do this is to first unplug the set and then remove the back cover.
Most likely you are seeing spider webs; with the back off I use a swiffer duster with a fairly long handle. Clean the three large black lens you will see with a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on the towel.
With the duster get all the webs and do not apply force for any attached to the inside of the screen.
Common problem and I have seen it many times. It is a good idea to clean the lens on the three tubes once a year--any dust on them will make the picture look somewhat darker and dull.

Sony KP-53HS30 53in color rear video projector Picture looks concave. Words, people, everything doubled. Whats wrong?
You have a convergence malfunction.......the convergence ic's and the protecter picp fuses in the power are will need to be replaced by a qualified perso. A reputable shop may charge around $300 to repair. If you have technical ability,I can guide you further to repair yourself as well
