Sony KP-65WS500 65" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
Sony KP-65WS500 65 in.
Check your CRT boards on the end of the tubes for burn spots, and burnt components, check the resistors to make sure they are not shorted, burnt, and they read the correct resistance. Check the diodes to make sure they conduct in one direction only and are not shorted or open.
Tv comes on then turns itself off
Sounds like the projection bulb is heating up then it shuts off for safety reasons. If you can locate the bulb, there is most likely a screen (wire mesh) that traps dust when the fan is on to cool the bulb. Try cleaning this screen and see if it helps. It could be already too late and you might have to replace the bulb.
My red color is not coming in very good. i think i
Hi Misty,I would reset or zero out all the colour/ contrast settings first. You can access all these via the menu on the remote. If the reds still seem a bit weak, you can purchase new lamps on the internet. Depending on how old the TV is, a new LED flat screen might be the go. The picture difference from rear projection to LED panel is significant.I would strongly suggest you do not replace the lamp yourself, there are dangerous voltages inside the TV cabinet. Also, if one lamp is weak there is a good chance the others will fail soon. If it has done more than 5000 hours, time for a new TV.
Screen turns blue on my sony KP-51WS500
Common issue on this set--locate the master screen / focus block and lower the BLUE screen control until the blue cast is gone, only a slight adjustment will be needed.
When i turn my tv
This is one of a group of sets that had bad picture tubes; the set uses a red, green, and blue tube.
The tubes are no longer available from Sony.
There is something simple you can do: it requires removing entire front grill on front of set beneath the screen (two or three screws on back on either side.)
Behind it is an inspection plate and with that removed look for a black plastic block with 6 small adjustable shafts. Three are marked focus (do not touch those) and three are marked screen; they are marked but not easy to read---green is the middle in each row left to right.
You want to carefully locate the BLUE SCREEN control and with the set on turn it down until the blue screen just goes away, this is usually best done with the set on an unused video input, all you should see is video 1 etc, just adjust down until no blue is seen.
It has to be done with the set on and DONOT put your hands inside the set, I use a insulated screwdriver or plastic tool for this.
If this corrects the problem you may only be buying some more life from the set. I changed dozens of these when they were under warranty by Sony.
Before you rate this solution let me know if you have questions.
