Your problem is bad convergence ICs. They align the red and blue beams to the green for a seamless picture. They have to change the deflection of the beams by adding or possibly subtracting drive to the beams. They tend to run very hot and over time dry out the heat sink compound. The compound is there to help dissapate the heat. With no advantage the ICs will overheat and burn out. They need to be replaced. This kind of problem occurs due to failure of convergence output ICs in Sony KP-51HW40 tv.
Replace convergence output ICs to solve tv problem.
Local tv repairman will do this job if you have no experience of electronics stuff repair.

KP-51HW40 shuts off due to incorrect white balance and blue arch lines is an evidence of that incorrect white balance. I hope tv standby red light would flashing 5 times then 3 seconds pause and again 5 times when tv shuts down.
This is rear projection tv that has three picture tubes (red-green-blue) inside to generate picture that projected at front screen. These three picture tubes must be drive with correct drive voltage to produce good picture of each color.
Solution for your tv problem is Screen Voltage adjustment that can be done easily if you are handy with electronics stuff repair.

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

You are right about the tubes. Do you see the board behind the tubes? They are called CRT boards and probably have some failed resistors. Usually those of very high values like 500-1000K-Ohms fail to cause this problem. I would advice that you set your multimeter to ohm meter mode and test these things. You may need a resistor color code guide for this job

It seems convergence output chips are defective and need to be replaced. It required soldering work with proper tools and prior electronics stuff repair experience.
If you are handy with electronics stuff repair then can do it yourself or ask local tv repairman to replace these ICs to solve convergence issue.

No the TV can not be split

You need to replace the two STK-392-560 CONVERGENCE IC chips this set uses.

This may be a do it yourself job if you have some skills, if not most shops charge a lot for this kind of repair.

These are symptom of defective green picture tube in tv that will be replaced to solve the issue.
It is not user level repair and experienced tech can do that job

You need to replace the Optic Assembly. If the unit is not under warranty through a third party, you are in luck.

Sony has extended the warranty for this issue through June 30, 2010. You will need to contact Sony's customer relations department (you can get their number from the back of your manual) or their website

They will find you an authorized service provider in your area, help get you set up with an appointment for a technician to come out and assess the problem, diagnose, order parts and install a new Optic Assembly. Free of charge.

Once the new optics block is in, that line will be gone, and you will be back in business.

The problem with the television is the lamp.

Have the lamp replaced and your television will be in good condition once again.

Then if the lamp replacement does not solve the problem, then you can replace the t-com board of the television.

yes these ic could be defective depending on how serious de misconvergence is if it is very serious it could be the ic's or it could also be a
digital board witch control the whole convergence. On the other end if it is slighly off course it can be ajust easely

You generally have a weak capacitor in the power supply, that will delay a startup! Second to these are poor grounds on any and all ICs attached to heat sinks. A heat sink is a large metal piece mounted on the TV board. It is a cooling fin to reduce heat on the IC. The pins are underneath these, and will have cracked rings around them. These of course reduce voltage and a promote a slow startup. Please check all capacitors with a capacitor checker and look closely underneath the TV board for bad solder grounds and resolder!

Usually when a TV starts producing sound but no picture a couple of faults can be attributed to it.
Least among these causes is the contrast or brightness. If either of them has been set to the lowest then you would get volume but no sound and if the channel has been changed to another station with no station then the blinking is bound to happen.
In another scenario if the picture IC in the unit has blown then you have to refer the unit to an expert to fix it. But be rest assured that the blinking lights are as a result of the TV being on a station with no reception.
