You probably should try a repair facility such as http://www.moduslinkpts.com or http://www.tristatemodule.com . They may still have what you are lookin for. The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

2 Things can cause this Red Tube needs to be adjust down on screen drive control or you need to replace Both of your STK ICS. Sony has alot of problems with Defective Tubes.Red and Blue Shorted out the most.

Hi sounds like your IR receiver has died. It happens. 20 years is a good life for a TV about twice what their life expectancy should be.

Wouldn't try to fix it as the set isn't worth investing $200 into.

Instead use the TV as a monitor only run your tivo, vcr, cable box etc. into your AV receiver let it do the video switching the only wire to your TV would be a video cable either through a yellow RCA cable or an S-video connector.

The IR receiver should be right there in front by the power button behind a piece of tinted plexi. if i remember correctly its on the same boards as the buttons making it a pain to replace.

In terms of why its not worth repairing, the chances of something else going wrong after the repair is high. 20 years from a projection set is ridiculously good luck the fact that one of the guns (CRT's) hasn't died on you is like ZI said very good. Also you have to look at the fact that it doesn't have a digital tuner, HD or the brightness of new sets that have come leaps and bounds in just the last ten years. Also on a personal note you would be amazed how much bigger your room will look without that huge cabinet in their. I also had a 61" sony finally had to let it go after 17 years, it was a good set but the picture on new LCD's is 10 times better and they take up no floor space if you use a $99 wall mount. .

to answer your question;
The part is called the "flyback" or high voltage transformer.
You have to push down and twist on it to get it back in, in any case it wouldn`t cause a fuse to blow.
Could confirm the model# of your set so i could get a service manual out?

Hi,

6 blinks - protection code. This means that there is a Problem with the TV and to Avoid any Further Damage, the protection Mode is Activated. The issue Could be from Inverter Board to panel. Proper Diagnosis is Required which needs to be done by the repairman.

There are 2 big black ICs mounted with aluminum heat sink on D Board and STK392-560 number would be written on those ICs, replace them to get back correct converge picture in your Sony KP-57WS510 tv.
STK392-560 is available in Part Store for $38
If you are handy with electronics stuff repair and can solder parts in circuit board then can replace above said ICs by yourself.

Go into the customer menu and select convergence with the SONY original remote control--if convergence is skewed and red or blue will not move in some direction--you have a convergence circuit problem.

I will attach some photos of what this type of problem looks like.

This model SONY uses two of the STK-392-560 IC chips for this; both along with any of the fuses that protect them need to be replaced.

I have photos of the chips, fuses, and board they are mounted on and also general instructions for this repair in this set.

It involves being able to get at the chips and fuses (parts cost for this on EBAY would be under 30 dollars.

There is also a TECH menu for adjustment--if it will not adjust in the customer menu--it will not adjust in the TECH menu.

See attached photos---I am in California and will not be able to respond for about three hours----have to go fix a set with a similar problem for someone.

hello No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.

Thats a convergence failure. The Sony type 1 convergence repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com should fix that issue. The kit contains the components and the CD with repai instructions.

Remove the rear cover and look at the board on the left hand side. It's the G board. It has the power cord going to it. Remove this board and on the it you should, with some effort, find D6116 and D6301 diodes. These just need to be heated up to re-melt the solder and then re-assembled. This worked for me anyways.

The convergence ICs have failed. The Sony Type 1 convergence repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com will usually repair that issue. The kit contains the components and the CD with instructions for the repair.

hello. problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.
