I replaced the lamp. now I have discoloration, Red

Your TV is an LCD rear projection type which requires a Mercury Vapor lamp. Mercury Vapor lamps emit UV light which is damaging to many materials. The discoloration you are seeing on the screen is the UV damage that has resulted over time to the LCD panels within the “Optical Block” (aka projector) of the TV. This discoloration has been creeping up on you for sometime, it just wasn’t as noticeable until you changed the lamp. Once you installed the new lamp, the UV light is bad at full force and the damage progresses at a quicker pace, due to the already weakened state of the LCD panels. Additionally, the picture is now brighter, exposing the damage for you to clearly see. The only fix for this problem is to replaced the Optical Block… an expensive repair. Although this is not good news, I hope this helps you understand the cause & solution and was of some assistance.

I have a 50 inch Sony with the blue screen

I recommend you talk to Sony directly and they may offer you an exchange with latest model with a great great discount. Mine is on the way for delivery with the same 'blue screen" problem. Dont bother looking for part replacement which will cost more than a brand new replacement from Sony. Good luck.

My sony grand wega 50" screen has started to go

Hello. Sorry for bringing bad news but your optics block is getting bad. It is very common issue with Sony LCD projection TV and even recall was issued. You can call Sony Customer Service to figure out if your model still covered by Sony warranty. It is very expensive repair, major optical assembly in your TV have to be replaced and total cost is not less than $600.
If you not covered by warranty anymore - there are not many options but to look for new TV.
Green tint on your screen will get progressively worse.
There is nothing you can do by yourself, unfortunately.
Good luck!
Russ.

Pictures good but has dark blue dots on sceen some

Hi, This is an optical block issue. There was a huge problem with all the optical blocks on many of these tv's. here is a link that talks about it:
http://sites.google.com/site/sonylcdrptvproblems/
Unfortunately the warranty extension has expired. You can call sony and complain and see what they might do for you but most likely if you want to repair the tv you would need to purchase and replace the optical block or have it done by a professional.
Thank you,
Lee

All of a sudden my tv acts like I need to put on

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

It's a Sony Wega 5O"

You really haven't asked a specific question, so I'm not sure what it is we can do to help you.

First, unplug the TV set.

Next, ensure that all connections are tightly connected. Every connection, or block connection inside, must be properly connected in order for the TV to work.

Once you have ensured that, then check the connection to the monitor itself, and be sure that is tightly connected.

If all connections are tightly connected, then plug the TV in, and turn on the power to see what the result is.

In a worst case scenario, contact the manufacturer for a user manual and specs, to see if there is anything you have missed.

One special thing t look for is internal fuses. These monster TV sets have a number of fuses inside, to ensure that there is not an electrical overload, so you want to be sure that all fuses are in tact, so that the set works.

Good luck,
-a.

If you have the owner manual it will tell you what the 3 blinks means.

I know it is one of two things: either the lamp door is not properly closed(these sets had a history of the door being warped by heat which causes this----I can tell you a easy way to see if this is your problem.)

The other possible cause (again owner manual would tell you) is these sets also have a history of a thermal fuse failing for no reason.

Let me know if you want to see if it is the door problem----takes ten minutes and you will know instantly.

We Have a Sony KDF-50WE655,

Make sure that lamp cover is fixed back on its position securely after lamp replacement, turn On tv to check.
If still no picture or sound then check power/standby light is blinking?
If yes, count it how many times it blinks after 3 seconds long pause and let me know to diagnose possible cause of problem.
Thanks.
