Sony 50 Wega LCD flashing red light

Hi

How many times is the red light flashing? The number of times the red led blinks means---

  • Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective.

  • One blink - not used for the self-diagnosis

  • Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

  • Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
  • Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505

  • Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

  • Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.

  • Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

  • Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.

  • Nine blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).
  • Ten blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.
  • No blinks(Unit is dead) - Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse, R607, Q601, IC601, R612 and VDR601 (should show open).
Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

My KDF-50WE655 will not turn on. No power light,

Hi kevin,If there's no led light at the front panel of the set, this is an indication that the problem is in the power supply board (G1 board), I'm assuming that you've confirmed that the AC source/outlet is live. To resolve this issue you must troubleshoot the G1 board board to isolate the faulty parts. If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to replace the entire G1 board or seek for an assistance of a qualified TV Technician.Let me know if you need further assistance.Hope I helped you.Have a nice day! Thanks for using Fixya.

My sony lcd hd tv

Yes this is definitely a case of faulty lamp. This set uses the XL-2100U lamp so make sure that you obtain the original replacement from Sony instead of the in-expensive ones sold in some online stores, which may damage the set.

Hi i have a sony wega...KDF-50we655. IT is

Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service. 1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. 3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue. 4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem. 6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set. 7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced. 8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset: Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved. Turn off the television. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a Sony model

The lamp you need is Sony XL-2100U ($78 at Amazon) or XL-2100 ($84 at Amazon).

Turn off the TV and wait a few minutes before you unplug it (let the cooling fan run). Then wait at least another 30 minutes before replacing the lamp. There are two screws on the rear panel (left and right sides near the top left of center of the small panels on the on the ends). Loosen the screws and then pull off the front panel (below the screen). The front panel has to be pulled off in stages - start at the right side and pull forward and down, then the left - pull forward and down and then the middle - pull forward and up. Loosen the screw on the lamp cover with a coin and remove the cover. Loosen the two screws that hold the lamp (use an allan wrench) and remove the lamp by pulling it straight out. Slide in your new lamp (handle with care - use a glove to avoid any oil from your skin getting on the bulb). Tighten the two screws. Then replace the lamp cover and tighten the screw. (Make sure that the screw goes into the unit straight - otherwise the safety lock may keep the TV off.) Reattach the front cover and then tighten the back panel screws. Put the old lamp in a box after it has cooled completely for disposal.

Pictures are available in the User manual here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=KDF50WE655 . The appropriate section starts at page 16.

I hope this helps.
