Hi,
You can use the Portable Video Recorder (GVD-200) to view, edit and transfer the 8 mm tapes. This unit can be connected to the Computer while viewing the tapes and can record the videos in the tape to the Computer using Software like Windows Movie Maker. Composite, S-Video or i.LINK cable can be used to connect this unit to the Computer for transferring the videos from the tape.
This unit also allows user to connect the deck via an i.LINK or infrared interface to any other i.LINK or infrared device and select up to twenty different scenes from a video and then have the deck automatically assemble those scenes together.
You can purchase this unit from any Sony Authorized dealers. You may also use a Sony Camcorder which can playback 8mm tapes by which you can transfer the tapes to the Computer or another Sony Digital Camcorder which have A/V or i.LINK input port.
Please get back to me for further assistance or comments.

OLD P6-120 Tapes
The only way if to get an 8mm player from any friend or from any photography studios that does conversion of old tapes. These recordings can be converted only if they can play well and hopefully without deterioration due to magnettic fields and fungus. Check out on old stores or maybe some electronic freaks who would be glad to share and ,make a transfer. Use can use a good handy cam to record using the the composite signals of video and audio which can be transferred to DVD. Hope you are lucky to find one! Good day.
The tape broke. How do I get it reconnected?
is the tape outside the cassette? or inside the case itself (if inside we have to open and connect it to reel) but outside you need the paper thin masking tape 1/2 to 1 inch wide (cellophane is to thick)...now take both ends of tape..the tape on left side cut a 1/8 inch (hold in left hand cut on a diagonal toward the left)..(just FYI this is called splicing) now the right one cut it about 1/8 inch also in the same manner toward the left)..now cut a 1/2 inch of masking place on table...place the right tape on tape leaving at least half for the other part to go on....now take the scissors cut off any excess masking tape on both edges of tape...this should help get your first job at hand done....recording to dvd....have fun
Tape
try this:
1. make sure the tape is not loose - turn one end to tighten
2. make sure the head is clean - try a qtip or slightly damp swap long enough to reach and clean the head (silver drum but please be extra careful not to use to much force there is a litte haed that reads the tape and if you get any strands caught on here it will be hard to get out) the head will spin but clean and hold as much as possible because the head is harder to clean while spinning and the head is in between that has a very small slot to see it but it is close to the gapped seem of the haed
3. if you can fwd and rewind tape
4. make sure nothing is stuck in like and torn tape pieces

now sometime tapes of 120m are really not recommended because of the load of tape amd ost have a tension sensor 60m is usually the best recommended

YOu may be confusing HI8 with 8mm. One being analog, the other being digital, and a slight difference in form factor
Format recovery
If your computer has an SD card reader you can get free software to recover the pictures on it. If not then get an external SD card reader and google photo recovery on SD cards.

Hi, I believe I know the problem having attempted to fix no less that a few dozen dvd players with similar problems. I would first try to clean the laser head with a dvd lens cleaner ( the kind with auto play and the little brushes actually on the disc.) Occasionally there may be foreign material partially obstructing the path of the laser beam causing playback for audio but not all dvd's-If that does not work I would say the dvd system has reached near the end of its life cycle ( this can be as little as a yr depending on how many total hours played and the manufacturer.) it can be the laser has gotten a little weak but more often than not the video digital to analogue has over heated just one to many times and is now on the fritz. I have never successfully repaired a dvd player that played music but not movies ( they're too cheap to buy these days to put so much effort into unfortunately-although as I said dirt can't be ruled out-I really had a game console that somehow had a dusty lens.) I hope this was of some use, thank you for choosing FixYa, write back to let us know if this helped or if we can be of further assistance, good luck-Prodzilla
