Sony RCD-W500C 5-Disc CD Recorder - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
After recording, I recieve a toc error c14 when I try to finalize it. How can I fix this problem?
There's a solution to the problem : the problem is one word..; '''Sony''. Throw the unit away as to my knowledge there is no company who makes discs that will allow a TOC (table of contents) to be written to the disc. All those Sony units were only designed to be accept Maxell CD-R Music Pro blank discs. They are unfortunately unavailable /no longer being produced. Step one: .Buy a Tascam recorder they accept consumer grade cds.. Step two: Boycott Sony as most of us who owned one of their standalone units didn't get two years of use out of it..including myself and most i've ever talked to about it.

Unfortunately, you have to remove the screws that hold the top cover on the player, unless you can remove the ones still in place one at a time through the door. If you can remove all the ones still in position, you might be able to get the remaining ones by flipping the player over.
The manual instructions are terrible!
I don't know but you really need to evaluate the 'blank CD' assessment better. That is the proper indication that you CAN record on it in Deck B. See page 22.
Maybe follow the manual as written. For your analog recording scenario see page 25. Doesn't your cassette deck have RCA out?
The actual source is irrelevant to the "blank disc" question.

could be bad dvds. if you have a tv top dvd recorder they are bad about going bad, because theres not enough vent holes, recorder gets to hot, burns up. i put more vent holes in top of my case. your best bet is to get dvd rw's they work better. then take your pc and copy your shows on a regular dvd . then reuse the rw's for your next job.

I have the same problem and have just lived with the B deck for over a year. Just now with nothing to lose, I decided to open it up. I don't have a clue about the inner workings, but was on a mission to at least rescue the 3 discs that were held prisoner. I'm happy to say that not only did I rescue my discs, but I'm listening to a disc in tray 2 right now. All the trays now work. I don't know if my disc was jammed in the player or what the problem was, but it seems the act of removing the disc from the deck made all the difference. If you want to try this, take the 6 black screws out (top 2 on rear panel, 2 on left and 2 on right panel) lift the panel straight up to remove it. you'll see the white framework that houses the trays and the play deck near the rear. In retrospect I should have opened up the play deck first since that may have been the source of the problem. I suggest you try that. There are two tiny screws on each side of the framework. Not sure if you need to remove the two screws with the washer heads. I think they just hold the disc clamp head in place. Again, I'm trying to save you unnecessary work, but remove them if it still doesn't come off. Once you get the top of the deck off, you should be able to access your disc. Take it out, then plug in the player to see if the deck starts to operate. I was very surprised. The belts started spinning and I was hearing the startup sounds I hadn't heard in over a year. Hope this helps
Just got this sony rcd w500c and it looks like the belt on the drive for deck A is loose also the door will not open or close I'm pretty sure these 2 problems are related. Any insights to a quick
Yes, open it up and observe what is going on and if the motor is turning the Flywheel which is also turning the capstan shaft. If this is a motor assist type transport the capstan belt needs to be having the right tension otherwise the transport can not be returned to the stop mode position to allow the door block to be retracted. If you study the mechanism a bit pull the plug and you can turn the flywheel sufficient to get the unit in stop position remove the tape and then take the transport out of the deck to replace the belt. MCM or MAT Electroncs will have the belt size you need but you need to measure and order by IC and thickness and it will then work again. A Technician can do all this for you and you will not have to worry about any details except to pay the bill. If you measure the old belt subtract 5 to 10% as the old belt is stretched. Get the same thickness also.
