Just purchased bike and chain skipped under load
very likely that chain links not "fitting" cog teeth . if both chain and cogs are brand new, then skipping should never happen. more often than not, a repair would require both new chain and new rear cogs, and possible new fron t chain wheel. all depends which item are worn. I would probably get a new chain firstly, then see if this fixed the problem. nigel

How do I adjust the brakes on my bicycle?
Re position the braking assembly so the stationary pad is just about to touch the rim and tighten. Then with the adjustment adjust the pad that moves so that it applies appropriate braking force when you squeeze the hand brake.
Oil weight recommended
I recommend the use of wheel bearing grease just the same as that for a car if you are going to open the parts up so you can get to the bearings. If you don't want to open these areas up then you can use a 90w gear oil, this has two side affects it is smelly and will get thrown all over the 1st time the bike is used after oiling. the time cleaning up, and the reduced effectiveness, it is really better to open the areas and use grease. most bicycle shops will do a grease treatment and adjust your bike for under 100$. This is the best option of all they will set up the bike for you in a lot of little ways you will feel the difference. The professional assembly and set-up of the bicycle is the reason that the box stores will sell you the same brand for lots less than a bike shop.
