Sony STR-D1015 Questions & Answers
The word protector starts flashing
It indicates you have an output short circuit.First check if all the speaker cables are all right with no shorting of the wires.Next disconnect all the speakers and try turning it on, if you still get the protect display you have to repair the output stage of the Amplifier. You will have to get professional help for that if you have no experience in electronics.
Sony str d-1015 stereo receiver stopped working
if you have been blasting it, that could be why, recievers of this era are made with cheaper parts that cant handle what theyre supposed too,
i dont know specifically, but things like that have some sort of auto fuse...
i would assume, you are using it with wrong ohmage speakers, are you using car speakers? car subs? older speakers?
most home stereo equipment is 8 ohms, i have a set of 140 watt 3 way (10"[vented]/4"/2") as fronts and a set of 80 watt rears (6"[vented]/1.5"/24mm) the fronts are induviduals, meaning they have to be bought individually, and are not sold as a set, or part of anything, the rears were part of a bookshelf system, i got the set secondhand... but i always checked the ohmage...
Stuck in protect mode
Protet mode is a special diagnostic mode that starts when a fault is detected.
When in protection mode the unit is prevented from starting by protection circuit, so to prevent further damage.
Check the speakers and speakers wiring, a contact in speaker wires, or faulty speakers can send the unit in protection.
Try unplugging power cable for one hour or so. then connect cable back
and see if you get rid of protect state. Sometimes accumulation of
electrostatic charges inside circuit capacitors can kick in protect
mode. In that case unplugging the unit from main for some times can get
rid of electrostatic charges, and reset circuits by draining power
completely.
If that was the problem, you will not get Protect when plugging back power cable.
If you do all the above and still get Protect, then there is a real fault.
In that case the unit may be disassembled and tested to find the fault.
If that is the case I suggest contacting the manufacturer at the number
listed on the owners manual, or asking a quote on repair to a local
technician.
My sony str-d1o15 says protector
I got this from Sony site, I am doing it to mine now, unplugged it first.
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot if the word PROTECT or PROTECTOR is flashing on the A/V receivers display.
- Check the speaker wires and speakers for proper connections.
- Reduce the volume level. IMPORTANT: If
the receiver is played back at maximum volume level it may enter the
protect mode. Maximum volume listening will cause the receiver to run
very hot and may drain the output capacitors.
- Disable the surround sound option if both the A and B speakers are being used simultaneously.
- Ensure the top of the receiver has proper ventilation to keep it from overheating.
- If the message only occurs when using a DVD player, the sampling frequency may be set too high. IMPORTANT: Some
receivers provide compatibility with the higher sampling frequencies
through alternate connections. Consult the owners manual for specific
information.
- Unplug the AC power cord for about 1 to 2 hours to reset the output transformers.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at
