If its 20 inch its not the model in the photo here, aside from that if something serious is wrong cheaper to buy a new set than fix this one, I am willing to help if know model and whats wrong with it.

Play around with the menu button on the TV if it has one and see if there are any options to change it.

HelloJust buy one universal remote control, which have setup codes for Syllvania TV. You can get this information from the code list of the remote control. Most RCA universal remote will have setup codes for Sylvania tV.

You have an aging TV and aging capacitors. There may be some bad grounds on the solder side of the main board. You need to first inspect the solder side of the board for bad solder connections. And find an ESR meter. (Capacitor Checker) No doubt you will find some weak capacitors. I would look for those almost anywhere on this TV. This TV is small and you should be able to test each and every electrolytic capacitor. The electrolytics are the caps that look like small cans with two legs. They are rated in Mfs. For example 35 volts @ 100 MF, 16 volts @47 Mf, 25 volts @ 4.7 MF, etc. Test all of them and replace as necessary. Good Luck and thanks for asking. Show a few hands of support.

get an universal remote control....look for the code for the tv...and u can get the tv working.........

These are the Manufactures Code for that brand of Tv

Hold The Tv Or Device To Be Programmed and hit power with it. then hit power until it turns on or off. then hit enter if you have one or hit tv/dvd/cable again. Hope This Helps

go up to your TV and go into the menu. Go to the channel selection and run the auto select for channels. This will take some time but the TV will end off the first channel found, the only thing is you cannot get back into video mode without the remote

Hi channyfanny. Have you tried beating on the set, LIGHTLY!!!
After it has shut off??? If it tries to come back on when you do this, it may be a bad solder joint or cracked component in the tv, if not, it may be a faulty component in the shutdown circuit, or a high voltage problem.

Hi DiBd. Some electronic components in a tv can go out of tolerance during long periods of inactivity. I think that's what's happened to your set. Some component in the video section of your tv has given up.

This is a runaway high- voltage condition. When the TV turns on, the high voltage goes out of sight, causing the snapping or popping sound. Then the high voltage shutdown circuit takes hold, and the set cycles on and off repeatedly.

Eagle 57 had the answer, your TV's are blind. The remote control sensing circuit in the TV is faulty. No remote will control it anymore.

This could be a High- Voltage shutdown circuit problem. The reason it will stay on longer with a bright picture, is the high voltage is slightly reduced, not allowing the shutdown circuit to shut off the set. But I believe your problems to be in the shutdown circuit.
