27" sylvania stereo television

The problem you are having is a vertical deflection problem. The screen is being compressed to a thin white line. It's probably a defective vertical output module or transistor. This part is not too expensive. Less likely would be a vertical deflection coil, which would be more expensive because its usually glued to the picture tube and harder to replace. You'll need to take your set to service center to have it serviced.

Good Luck!

Digital TV

Hi,
right hdtv stands for high definitian tv witch basically means if you buy a hd dvd player or blueray then you can watch the films in really high quality alot better than normal dvd. The same if you had cable tv or sky you pay a fee for an hd converter then this lets you watch certain channels in high def. So it basically means that your telly is capable of using all the new hd equipment thats coming out like the playstation 3 can play high def dvd's as long as you buy the hd lead as you need this due to the fact that it sends more data to the telly their for giving alot better sound quality and alot better piture quality when watching hd dvd's.
At the moment their are only a few tv channels that are using hd at the moment but this will soon change.
So to watch hd dvd youll need an hd dvd player and to watch hd tv you need to contact your cable or sky people and ask them what you need to do to watch hd programmes. they will then upgrade your box and should send you an hd lead to plug into your telly from the sky or cable box.
Hope this is helpfull and easy to understand.

Hd is well worth having as the quality is amazing you wont believe it till you try it i was shocked as the detail and quality is mind blowing its like watching real life, it really is that good.

Let me know if you need further assistance ok

Tv problems

This is a bit to vague of an explaination to properly trouble shoot you problem. Although most sets are fixable, it depends on the value of the set to you. I have seen problems like this be as easy as just a fuse and all the way to a bad fly-back transformer. If you have a volt ohm meter, you could check the fuse and see if it's the easy fix ( make sure you always unplug the set before checking anything in the set ). If the fuse is bad, you can simply change it and your ready to go. If it's anything else, it may require more extensive board work and I would suggest you seek professional help.
I Hope this helps

Is my tv digital?

your tv is not digital, but fear not the Dish network reciever is already digital. the satbox is digital and converts to your TV.
if you are worried about the conversion to digital this applies to off air broadcast (the stuff you get from an antenna in your local area). if you want to know if you can get HD on your set, well your out of luck there because that is a whole differant digiotal world.
to explain this better we have to understand the old broadcast world before we get into the digital world.
NTSC or National Television Systems Committee has been the standard that we have watched TV since the creation of TV (one size fits all). it is an anolog format that is plaged with problems in the broadcast world, snowy pictures due to poor reception, visible scan lines, and a whole host of other problems. so the US has adpopted a new broadcast standard ATSC or Advanced Television Systems Committee, formed in 1993 this committee came up with 18 formats to which a broadcaster may choose from to broadcast the message. of the 18 only 6 are HD or High Definition. this does not mean that your local broadcast has to provide HD but they must be digital in their broadcast (SD or HD). the advantage of going to digital is that you will never see a snowy picture ever again, you have the picture or you don't. also the broadcaster has now can broadcast multiple programs on their one carrier (frequency). so if you want HD you must have a set that can display this format and have the equipment to produce this to your set. the dish box you have may not be able to produce this signal to your NEW HD setso that may be needing to be upgraded.

Sylvvania 27" tv will not respond to universal remote....

it seems that there is problem with the remote receiver circuit of your tv since your remote is working alright with the other tv. inspect for possible cold solder on that circuit or failing component, but if you are not inlined with kind of job, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!

My tv power does not come on

This set uses a switching power supply. Usually when there is a short on the output side of the switching transformer the supply will just shut down and refuse to operate but normally will not blow a fuse. If the fuse blows suspect a problem with something shorted on the input side of the switching transformer such as I801 regulator IC, diode bridge D801,or other shorted component. Perhaps someone else could tell both of us any other part that could cause the regulator to blow and should also be replaced to prevent regulator failure in the future.

Not ready to buy a new tv

That means that you have a vertical circuit fault. I'm afraid this repair is going to involve getting a service manual, using a mutimeter and troubleshooting the vertical driv as well as the vertical output circuit my friend. It should not cost more then I would say $125.00 or so. but you can replace this set for about 190 bucks. These sets are solid state and have no user replaceable parts inside of them, so if you have no TV repair experience, play it safe and take the TV set into a repair center for an estimate. Good Luck
