Turn power on and it goes to standby

You may want to check the power supply. This is an internal power supply so I recommend you take the unit to a qualified technician.

Need to hookup Satelite

If you cannot call around and have a tech come out and hook everything up right the first time. The more equipment you have the harder it gets to figure out what needs to go where.

Do not know how to change the screen sizes, and we do not have the original remote

Sounds like you have it in the 4x3 format where it is closed on both sides several inches. If it has a Aspect button on the remote or the set use that. Note that some cable or sat boxes will format some channels in this format, cannot do nothing with that.Unless you get an original remote you do not have much of chance to change the format, a few sets have a button or you can enter the menu manually but not many.

Hi I have a Sylvania

Hi,

I have a copy of the supplement service manual that has an instructions on how to reset the unit to factory settings (Page 15). You need to make your remote control as "service remote control" to perform the reset. It has an illustration on how to make it. Email me at [email protected], I will send you the copy.

RCA L26WD26DA - Pwr button

Good day!!

That problem is usually cause of bad/faulty capacitors on the power supply board..So you have a better chances and easily locating the faulty capacitors if it is look like leak/bulged on the top..

So please try to follow this instruction on how to do that..

1. Open the back cover of your TV.

2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..

3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..

4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..

5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter..

Hope it helped..
Thanks for using fixya...

I have a Sylvania 6842PE

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

Hello - The fact is that your TV, as a HDTV ready device, is really a display monitor that does not contain any TV tuner. There is no place to attach your coax TV connector.

To view TV on the unit you would have to either subscribe to cable or satellite TV service or buy yourself an external TV tuner such as listed HERE (I'm not recommending this tuner just showing the kind of device you would need.)

Regards and thank you for using Fix Ya.

Hello; This is a common problem. There is a blue disk shaped capacitor that has shorted. It was made by Panasonic who famous for crappy parts. It is about 3/8 " in diameter and 3/32 " thick roughly. I think this is a 2200 pf @ 2KV but not sure without going into my notes. If you send me the board , I can replace this part but without warranty. I will require $45 cash or postal MO to cover labor part and return shipping. Call me at J D Electronics 207 998 5687 M-F 9-5 only John

My 6842pe does not turn on. when I turn on it goes

Hopefully only your power supply is to blame. Then you can repair it or get it repaired for a little more than $150 or get it replaced for about twice as much plus the cost of labor. If you or a repair person start testing the boards and see that one or more of them have also failed then the cost of parts and labor will go up. It looks like Encompass Parts has parts still available for this television and the power supply is $194.

I press the power on button & the green light

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found at tv-part.com but supplies are limited. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and if it does please rate it accordingly. Good luck.

How do you hook up regular coax cable to the TV?

You simply need an "F" connector to "Belling-Lee" converter. about $4.00. At any Radio Shack, Antenna shop. This screw onto the end of the existing antenna connection & makes it so you can plug it into the Socket at back of set.
I have included a link that has a picture.
