It will work just about anywhere in the world, including Oklahoma. The BC244CLT is a conventional scanner though, and it will not work with trunked or digital systems. To find out what frequencies and systems are currently in use in your area, visit:

The only realistic way to improve reception is with a better antenna. You can find a wide selection at sources such as eBay and ScannerWorld.com

Just forget the 8th digit. If it's a zero it's meaningless (last digit zero never needs to be programmed). If it's anything else the scanner will still pull in the signal without the last digit.

How to remove a noisey

For a temporary fix just press the LOCKOUT key while the scanner is stopped on the noisy channel. For a more permanent fix you can program 000.0000 into the channel, effectively deleting the programmed frequency from the scanner's memory.

I have a Uniden Bearcat

Your scanner is a basic 10-channel "oldie" and it's fairly simple to program and operate. To enter/program a known frequency:

- Power the scanner On
- Press MANUAL to stop scanning
- Press MANUAL repeatedly to advance to the channel that you wish to program
- Enter the desired frequency, including the decimal point (e.g., 156.225).
- Press E to enter the frequency into memory

Press the MANUAL key to advance through the channels, and press SCAN when you're ready to listen.

Uniden Bearcat BC 147XLT

Many factors can be considered when attempting to receive signals.
1. The area you are scanning: Is it a big metropolitan city? Are you trying to receive Law Enforcement or Fire frequencies? Many of the bigger cities have now adopted APCO25 Digital Trunking and this particular model will not receive these signals.

2. Should you be in a Rural area there may not be much going on anyway. It may also help to have a bigger antenna located outside as high as you can mount it.

3. Try scanning the Amateur Radio bands 144-148, or 440-450. There is bound to be some activity there.

4. Try obtaining a frequency guide or search the net for frequencies in your area. Try the site link below and click the Reference database button.
www.radioreference.com

You may want to be patient when scanning as waiting proves to be a futile effort, I like to listen to the scanner secondary to what I am doing. Waiting for something to happen will drive you nuts! LOL :o)
Hope this tip prove helpful.

There is no volume.

Connect a speaker to the rear external speaker Jack and see if you hear anything there. The connector may be bad.
