Uniden BC60XLT-1 Handheld Scanner - Page 4 Questions & Answers
I HAVE A UNIDEN BC80XL
Your first step is to compile a list of active frequencies in your area. You can find a very good database at:
www.RadioReference.com
Next, mark or highlight the frequencies that you want to program, making sure that they will work with your scanner. See your scanner manual for a list of covered frequency ranges. The BC80XLT will hold 50 frequencies.
Once you have the desired frequencies, you're ready to begin:
- Power the scanner ON.
- Press the MANUAL key.
- Enter the channel number that you want to program (01 - 50). If you're going to program the entire scanner for the first time, start with channel 01.
- Press the MANUAL key.
- Use the keypad to enter the desired frequency, including the decimal point (e.g., 146.075). Zeros at the end of the listed frequency need not be entered (e.g., 805.25000 should be entered as 805.25).
- Press the E key to save your program information.
- Press MANUAL to advance to the next channel, then start by entering the frequency.
More detailed instructions are in the factory manual. If you don't have a copy you can download and print it, at no cost, here:

I have a pro-528triple trunking
Sorry, but the answers to your questions are no and no. Modern scanners are what they are, and they cannot be modified to monitor any secure (encrypted), digital, or cell phone communications. There is no magic fix to convert an analog scanner to digital. If you want to listen in to digital communications you'll need to purchase a digital-capable scanner, but that will still leave you without cell phone coverage or the ability to listen in to whatever secure transmissions you're referring to.

I can not receive any
TETRA is a relatively new trunked radio system that is coming into wide use in Europe. It uses digital technology unlike "standard" trunked systems, and there are no scanners available that allow monitoring of TETRA systems. For more information on this technology, there's a pretty good article you can read here: http://www.radio-electronics.com/info/cellulartelecomms/private-mobile-radio/tetra/what-is-tetra-radios-communications.php

What are trunked freqencies
A trunked radio system is one where users share a number of frequencies that are rotated by a computer, and while your scanner may be able to tune in to specific frequencies within the system, it is not capable of following a user when the frequencies are changed. In other words, you may pick up a lot of activity on a frequency in the system, but you'll have a bunch of partial, cut-off conversations involving different users. For more information/discussion of trunked systems, I suggest that you visit www.RadioReference.com

It's impossible to give you a definite answer without knowing the make and model of your scanner, but if your display is showing a key or a lock, look for a key that has a symbol that looks like a key or a lock. With the scanner ON, press and hold that key until the display symbol clears. I hope this helps.

Make certain that you have programmed active frequencies for your area, and adjust the squelch control to set a proper receive threshold. If you have done both of these and the scanner still will not receive, it's likely in need of repairs - and considering the $50 or so current market value of the BC60XLT-1, compared to a repair cost of $100 or so, you would be better off with a replacement than with a repair. Nice, working, scanners can be purchased from eBay and other sources for under $50.

How to enter a frequency?
Programming for the BC60XLT-1 is fairly simple, and it's best explained in the factory manual that you can download and print, at no cost, here:

I have a uniden bc60xlt-1. The batteries were low
It sounds like the circuit that maintains memory temporarily when power is lost has given up. The value of your scanner is less than the $100 or so that repairs would cost (you can pick up a used BC60XLT for about $50 on eBay), so your best course is to reprogram it and just remember that it will lose its memory if the batteries are removed. Programming is simple for this model, and the best instructions are in the factory manual which you can download and print, at no cost, here:

Can i buy a scanner
No. Monitoring cellular phone conversations is against federal laws, and no manufacturer offers scanners with that capability to the public. Even older, pre-ban scanners that would seem capable of cellular reception are analog only, and therefore not capable of receiving today's digital signals.

I cant listen to the police
First, make sure that you have the correct frequency for your local police. You can find a comprehensive database of active frequencies in your area by visiting:
www.Reference.com
Program the frequency or frequencies using the instructions in the scanner's operating manual. and you should be all set. If you need the manual, you can download and print it, at no cost, here:
http://www.uniden.com/pdf/BC60XLT-1om.pdf
NOTE: If the frequency database shows that your local police are using a trunked system, you will not be able to monitor them using the BC60XLT-1. Trunked systems require a trunking scanner. Many law enforcement agencies are also using digital systems for their communications. If that's the case in your area you'll need a scanner capable of monitoring APCO-25 digital transmissions.
