Electricity was off for several
There was probably a power surge either when the power went off or when it came back on. There is most likely a problem with the power supply inside of the DVD/VCR. You should either get a new one or take it to a repair shop to be fixed (it needs new parts and it is not user fixable). To prevent this from happening again you should get a surge protecter. Sometimes you might have something that looks like a surge protecter but isn't. Make sure it says surge protecter on it.

To confirm the benefit of doubt on the DVD player please play the newly burnt DVD on the PC. If the PC does not recognize the files, check for the properties, check the data on the files, check the error status. This will confirm if the DVD written data format is bad, corrupt or faulty.
If so the fault is within the burnt out process , maybe the software as the DVD reads all other disc.

Dish network
With the dish remote and do a code search as described in the remote manual and see if you can find it that way. If you go through the entire code search and none of them turn off the VCR/DVD combo, then there is nothing you can do, as those codes in the remote are all stored in the remote and they cannot be programed in. If you do not have a remote manual to set up the remote, to do a code search, simply go to the dishnetwork web site and search for it.

Looking for a remote
The remote s____s . Perhaps try a universal. How did you get the machine to work great. I can't get it to timer record correctly, and pix is lousy on record. It seems to want a cable box?

Can't record on DVD's
I have a manual and it says it is a DVD player, not a DVD recorder, so that could be your problem - no recording fxn
How can I set the channel BACK to CH 3 from CH 4
1) Set your TV to channel 3.
2) Insert a pre-recorded tape into this unit.
3) Press the OUTPUT button on the DVD/VCR so that the VCR OUTPUT light is lit.
• If noise appears on the TV screen, press the VCR/TV button on the remote control.
4) Press the PLAY button once.
5) After a few seconds, press the PLAY button on the DVD/VCR for 3 seconds.
• The RF output channel will change to channel 3 from channel 4 and you will see a playback picture.
• When a picture does not appear on the TV screen, repeat step [4].
6) Press the STOP button to stop playback.
