All you have to do is buy a vhs to dvd recorder. They sell those everywhere, like costco, walmart, etc. They keep getting cheaper and cheaper...
They will come with a manual with model specific instructions, but usually its pretty easy. The cassette plays and the device records the video onto the dvd.
They also play vhs and dvds too XD.

your videoplayer(vhs) heads are dirty, use a vhs cleaning tape, buy from your local music store, or ask them where to get one, or your the videotapes you are using are worn, try other newer less used tapes if they work fine then the tapes your trying to play are worn, otherwise dirty play heads are the problem.

there is a rubber band that opens and closes tray, it's located at front of player! You can get new ones on ebay or Amazon, or you can use the bands that kids make bracelets out of but they won't last long!

Are you saying the buttons on the machine don't respond? Either they are bad, or there is a setting that allows them to be locked so children don't play with them. Check your settings in the menus.

It requires a code to unlock it. Only the person who locked it will know the code. Unless there is a factory reset to default that allows all settings to be erased, and you can't find the passcode, you're probably out of luck.

OK, first go through these steps: (if they doesn't work, then you have to say good bye to the combo. 1.) check if your DVDs aren't scratched (very common) 2.) check if your DVDs aren't dirty (eg. somebody held it in his hands after he ate a juicy marmelade bread) 3.) Try to clean the head (lens) of your DVD player with a cleaning DVD (at least 5 times).

The laser lens is dirty. It is trying to read read read and it can't. With the tray open, try cleaning the little lens thingie you see inside, at the bottom, with a moist cotton swab. That otta fixya!
