Philips VR540 VHS VCR Questions & Answers
My child got the video stuck i got it out but it
This can be due to many faults and need a full check up but I can fill up with few tips.
1. If the cassette does not loads ,then the loading section can be faulty as the load motor or the load motor drive can be faulty.
2. If the cassette in take up tray was removed this would create a wrond setting and so the MODE detect will work differently - check these which are opto devices or proximity sensors/magnetic type.
3. Check for fault in the capstan drive or the SERVO section as it will not power the set but trips off if there is a short.
4. Defective HALL IC can shut the switching and so the servo will shut down the processor.
5. Fault in the power section to deliver the correct voltage to the circuits/loading servo to take up.
6. Finally if the loading is not to the MODE switch point or failure of mode can make the loading to trip as it will not complete the load to the desired point.

Error 2 and error 3 and error 4 are tech codes.
and if your unit won't reset, you can take it to your local
electronic repair shop. I had error 3 on my Phillips,
and he went to the PM webpage, researched it, and fixed it perfectly for $39.00 total. STILL WORKING!
He said it was some little thing to replace that took him 15 minutes.
If you don't want to buy one of the REALLY cheaply made vcrs or DVD/vcr combos that are out now, it worth a little phone time to find
an electronics repair shop. Or the new DVD recorders with vcr combos are very good, but sturdy ones are expensive.

E2 is not an error code. It means that the video tuner is set to EXT2 (Scart input 2)
Press the VCR button on the remote control, and try again.
Sound
What does "having no sound" mean?
- no sound on playing a known good tape?
- no sound after recording?
- no sound when recording if you plug in headphones or into a monitor?

A couple of possibilities: One, if the mechanism is gear driven, it may be "out of time." Gear positioning is critical, and if a gear has slipped a tooth or more out of time, the unit will not work. Often, there are marks on the gears which must be lined up in a particular mode, as specified in service literature. Also, you may have a broken gear.
Second: Some other component, perhaps a part of the tape carriage (mechanism which holds the tape) is broken.
VCRs of the last 10+ years are made poorly, prone to break, disposeable, unlike those of the '80s which were usually built like tanks. Unless this is a high dollar VCR, repair isn't recommended, even if you can find a repair shop.
Philips VR540 video cylinder motor slowly go round. Why ?
Nope, the only thing you can do is make sure the cylinder motor has the proper B+ on it and replace the cylinder motor if the voltage is correct, but to tell you the truth a new unit would most likely be less expensive the a nes cylinder motor. hope this helps. Good Luck
I have Philips TV mode
I'm assuming that you have checked that the sound is not muted. To confirm that a reset to factory settings is the next procedure: Menu - Setup - General - Factory settings. If you don't see/hear any modifications then it's a hardware defect, not something with the settings.
This happens when the tv thinks that the headphones are used. Simple test to confirm that: plug in a pair of speakers and see if you get the sound on them. If you get and the situation doesn't changes when you unplug them then this is a mechanical defect: the small switch inside the headphone jack is faulty and keeps signaling that the headphones are plugged in when they are not.
The only way to fix that is to replace the jack, which involves a very delicate soldering procedure , one that only a good repairman can do - you must call one.

In order to pair your RMT-D197A remote to your Philips TV, follow these steps: 1. Power on the TV with the remote. 2. Press and hold the Setup button on the remote until the red LED light blinks twice. 3. Input the four-digit code that corresponds to your brand of TV on the remote. This should be found on the enclosed code list. 4. Release the Setup button. If the code is correct, the red LED light will blink twice. 5. Aim the remote at the TV and press the Volume Up button. If the TV responds, the remote is paired correctly.
