When i try to burn
Hello,
Note that if it is a CD-ROM,then tou cannot use it to burn a DVD,but if it is a DVD-ROM,you can use it to burn a CD.Then apart from this sometimes virus cause this sometimes but most probably what i think is that the lens of your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM is weak. You have to change it,better still you can replace the whole drive instead of the lens,or get an external DVD ROM.But as a first approach use a Lens cleaner to clean your lens. You can get this at computer stores.
Regards
In my computer CD drive
Make sure the data cable is fully connected to the motherboard and the CD-Rom drive. If this is an IDE drive, make sure the jumper choice matches the position on the cable (the 40 pin wide ribbon cable that supports two drives). It also needs to be correctly oriented in the unit - the red stripe on the edge marks the side that goes to pin 1. Only use slave if there are two drives connected to the cable and the CD-rom is on the slave connection. (Note the connectors are black (motherboard), blue (master) and grey (slave) on a standard IDE ribbon. Newer IDE drives have a Cable Select option that you can leave the jumper set to and avoid issues of getting the connections wrong.) If it uses a SATA cable, the jumper should stay as Master (IIRC). If available, try a different connection on the motherboard for the data cable. (Some modern motherboards only have one IDE connector.) If you have any sort of IDE to SATA converter in use, try a direct connection in case the converter is damaged. SATA cables sometimes are designed to latch into connector on the drive so make sure it is fully seated.
Replace the cable if it still isn't connecting. Then check the status of the drivers. In Windows, use the Control Panel and go to the Device Manager. Look to see if the unit is listed with a red X or yellow exclamation point in a triangle. Try to update the driver.
If the above suggestions do not help, you should consider a new optical drive.
I hope this helps.

(I have frequently seen a non-responsive drive due to a loose data cable.)

Disc drive is slow, rips
check out for firmware updates and try to install that .. check the hardware manufacturer from the Device manager. update the drivers. If that does not help then its a hardware problem.

MY E-MACHINES COMPUTER IS RUNNING
lol. no. your computer is slow due to malware... spyware... bots... viruses... ect... temporary internet files... not enough ram... not enough processor power... and outdated hard drives... i.e... ide 40 pin. now... if it's slow on running stuff from the cd drive... then yes... that is one reason... along with dirt on cd... fingerprints... hair... ect. take a can of compressed air... or get a cd drive cleaner.

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the
registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7)uninstall the drivers for cd drive and dvd drive from device manager and then

Cd draiver problems
Windows 2000 and XP and Vista and 7 have the correct device-drivers for CD-ROM devices.
What are the symptoms of your problem?
What error-messages are produced?
Is it just one CD-ROM disk that is giving you the problem?
Have you tried that disk in another computer?
Emachine 250 does not have a disc drive. It will
press delete during boot up process enter BIOS then f1 for general help then run chkdsk/f which will automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then
try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs type cmd then type chkdsk/f which will automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive
