Try restarting...when the eMachines splash screen appears (e)...press Alt+F10 at the same time...this is the method I learned about when my eMachines recovery management would not complete the restoration process...mine is a desktop pc...but give it a try and see what happens.

try changing that power switch with restart switch SETS, i do that coz i dont really use restart switch. or check computer store, i recommended accessories or repair store.ask for set of power switch cable. usually they does have it on sale.HOPE SOLVE..

white screen usually means the cable behind the screen has come detached or that cable is damaged. Don't see how the usb has anything to do with it unless it was shorted against this cable.Typically its the cable going to the screen. Sounds like the driver is corrupt for the video and it is using a standard VGA driver that defaults to a lower resolution. Access the emachines website which is now owned by Acer i think and download the correct Video driver and try to reinstall it.
