Blue color is getting weak

Below are two of the most common problems encountered with projection TV sets. Problem #1 - CONVERGENCE PROBLEMProjection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets and a fairly simple DIY fix.Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.1d5e2cf.jpgff5b9f6.jpg7deade1.jpgHere is a quick test....Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence. You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem. Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution47a7bc4.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTIONYou will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from TvRepairKits.comTheir kits include a step by step instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc. Problem #2 CRT Fluid is CloudyProjection tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around video. Pic of a set that needs the fluid changed. Notice how dull the colors are and how white the screen looks. The screen may also look red, orange, dull, etc. BEFORE7c190d8.jpgSet after fluid change. Notice how bright the colors are now. Everthing looks crisp and sharp again. AFTERa798d23.jpg724bcba.pngSolution #2 - CRT FLUID FIXWhat you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement coolant, step by step instructions, support, etc.

55 inch (55pp95 0217) turns on then clicks off

I believe what you have there is a Philips 55pp9502/17 and with hose symptoms it's most likely the Smd capacitor 2009 on small signal board is leaking. Replace 2009 using 319801634710. Locate 2009 on the flyback side of the ssb, above the marking for ic7011 which is absent. Caution: remove ac power for at least 10 seconds before removing the Ssb from the chassis.
If you're not that good with SMT (surface mount technology), like some of us techs simply replace the ssb as a module, Philips p/n# 310432815384...

55PW936317F appears to me to be to red

Turn the color off and or go to a black and white program--stand back and examine the screen--what color is screen with no color? If red or pinkish you may be able to locate and slightly adjust the red screen control down to get rid of this.It is not real easy on this set as the controls are inside the set and face the rear--two person job--one watches the screen and the other slowly turns (tiny bit at a time) the red screen down.

My rear projection TV works fine except that the

The liquid is called Glycol and is like antifreeze and very toxic.

Not a job for a do it yourself person.

You can determine if this is your problem in a simple way: carefully remove back cover and with set turned on (do not touch anything in set) look in each of the 3 black lens. You should see a red picture and a green picture and a blue picture.

If you look in any of them and no picture and looks like a floodlight, the glycol in that tube is contaminated with bacteria.

Blue is the most common (red never since the bacteria does not like that color) and green rarely.

If blue is the problem, the picture will have a yellow cast to it (red and green equals yellow).

What has to be done is the offending picture tube has to be removed, drained of the Glycol, the area holding the Glycol taken apart and washed out----then fresh Glycol goes in and tube gets put back and set will need some real adjustments.

Remember, when I have done this it is rubber gloves and do not get any of this on you as you will absorb it into your body and it is 10 times more toxic than what is used in cars.

If you confirm only one tube has bad Glycol shop around and see what shops want for this repair.

Before you rate this solution let me know if you have any questions, I am here to help.

Here's what Philips FAQ says about your convergence procedure:
Question How do I adjust convergence (align colors)? Answer Note: For best results, the Projection TV needs to be turned on for 15 minutes or longer before adjusting the picture tubes (convergence).

Press the INTELLISENSE button on the remote (under the flap). During the convergence process DO NOT press the INTELLISENSE button again and DO NOT move the Projection TV.

So, I think you're going to need to order a replacement remote.

Don't have remote is there another way to line

Chances are the new ICs have failed since the 6.8 ohm resistors werent changed a phillips will almost always blow one or two of the 6.8 ohm resistors and if new ICs are installed without replaceing the resistors the new ICs are usually destroyed by the blown resistors. You will need the original remote or authorized replacement to adjust the convergence properly.

s764,

This is a classic solder joint problem. See my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r9091471-soldering_101 which explains the procedure of soldering properly, where to get the equipment and how to do the job. I would recommend getting some magnifying glasses and looking at the circuit boards to isolate the problem and then solder all connections on the board.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.
