So, if I am understanding you right. As you are talking on the mic you are cutting out as if it is shutting down. If this is the case I would adjust your settings. It sounds like it is clipping from maxing out the input. A protection is cutting you out. Let me know if this is not the case.
As you have written, it sounds like a short or a frayed wire. That is what I would have thought. It could be that the terminal wire has dry jointed and come away from the mic head. You could buy a cheap £15 head set just to check that it is the cables. I use a similar system for a glass blowing studio demonstration area and I am constantly buying replacement head sets. Its a shame there is no complete wireless system on the market. It is always the connections between the bodypack and the headset that are the weakest link.
Theoretically you should be able to connect an MP3 player to the bodypack to prove there isnt a problem from there-on. (I have never tried this but I am now intrigued as to whether it would work)
Its a bit of trial and error and you seem to be following the same path that I would. The only other problem I have had is the aerial on the body pack. I would never have thought such a small aerial could cause popping sounds etc but I have also seen this to be a problem in the past.
Hi, when loud screeching sounds and static is are heard on sound systems in most cases it is as a result of poor wire connections to the speakers. Check the wires to the speakers most likely the screeching and static is coming from those.
Also static could also be caused by mobile devices being close to the receiver. Mobile devices such as internet modems and mobile phones as well as radio transmitting devices could cause static and screeching.
