I have a 1985 toshiba tv with a broken power button how to repair

Anyone other than a trained electronics tech should NEVER go inside an older, tube-style TV. There are LETHAL voltages in there, so unless you know exactly what you're looking at, one touch could kill! The unit is 30 years old, so it's ready to die at any moment! Capacitors are nearing their end of life, as is the picture tube, and those will be expensive to fix (more than a new HDTV). Time for a new HDTV! You might have to settle for something small, but you can save for a larger size, and prices will continue to fall over time.

We have a black screen with no picure, but

Sounds like its either your cable service or the cable being used to connect your cable box to your TV. The cable of course is my first suspect but on your tv how are you connecting to cable it is a coax cable or rca ect. ??

I have a 27N-S100

What you're trying to do shouldn't work unless the VCR has a digital tuner in it or your cable company still hasn't converted over to digital as of yet. You will need to get a digital cable box from your cable company.

Connect the av cables to either the front or back of the television. I believe the front is av/video 2 and the back is av/video 1. You have to choose either video 1 or video 2 from the television's menu in order to access these parts of your television.

Connect the cable box to the other end of the av cables and you should be all set. You would change channels with your cable remote and always leave the Sharp television on video or

What you're trying to do: Connect the cable to where it says in on the back of the vcr. and connect the av cables to the vcr where it says out. You will have to do a channel scan on the vcr.

I have an old Sharp

If this line does not go all the way across the screen then I will bet you this is an easy fix. Press the menu button on the remote control. The menu will hopefully show up over-top the black. Search your menu for the closed caption setting (usually under audio settings menu) and turn closed caption OFF. Hopefully this fixes your issue. Cheers.

How to hook up headphones

It looks like your TV has stereo AUDIO OUT jacks on the rear panel (L and R) which you can use to connect headphones. Go to a local Radio Shack or other electronics retailer and ask for help with the required adapter cable and connectors. They should be able to direct you to the product(s) as Radio Shack has these simple adapters and they should cost very little. All you need is a simple RCA cable with the white and red plugs for the TV side and depending on your headphones, either a 3.5mm or larger connector for hookup on the headphone side. They also sell extension cables so you can move away from the TV more. Don't let them sell you anything fancy or expensive as this is really simple.

On the front of the TV you should be able to press both channel up and down at the same time and it will give you access to the TV menu. Once in the menu use the channel and volume up and down buttons to navigate.
