If this is an old unit or beyond the warranty, check if leaving the unit unplugged overnight would help. If it does not, inspect the internal of the tv (recommended for those out of warranty). What to look for are, burnt parts, leaking or swollen capacitors and loose solders. While unplugged inspect the internals starting with the power supply circuit ( first circuit right after the power chord) which is the most common to go bad. If there is none work your way to the main board and other components. If there are no physical signs of damages, use a tester to check where the voltage cuts of.

Sharp Aquos LC-37 is 20 months old and would not power on
it is 99% certain that what needs to be replaced is the power board.
That's the #1 problem across the board with TVs that work for some time and then start behaving like you describe.
If you know what a scredriver is I'd suggest you do it yourself.
You can seek for a new board on eBay or through Google. I'd search for "LC-37GD6U power board".
If you don't find one you'd start searching for other similar TVs and compare the pictures of the board with what you pull out of yours.
Of course you can have a technician do all that for you for a $150 more.
