First of all any make or model tv will work with any directv receiver as long as it is connected properly. In my expierence Sharp TVs are compatible with all directv recievers. Is the directv remote not functionly properly with your sharp tv or do you have a black or snowy display. Your tv has to be on correct input in which the technician should of educated you on this instead of suggesting the purchase of a sony branded tv. Black or snowy display indicates the wrong input. Using the tv remote find a button labeled source or av or input and try pressing that button until you see a picture. otherwise call directv tech support at 800-347-3288 and demand that this issue is resolved immediately.

Thanks for using FixYa. Blinking light means that the power is getting to the unit however, as its not working which means that the power board should be checked. To start with open the back of the unit and then check the power supply board for any bad (bulged/swollen) capacitors. Power supply board is the board where all the power cords/plugs goes into. After you have checked that also check the main board and if you can use a multimeter to test the components on these boards. However, from your earlier posts it seems to be the main board that is bad and should be replaced. All this should only be done if you have knowledge of internal circuitry of the unit as the components consists high voltages even when in off position. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Go in the tv menu go to PICTURE go down to reset.Let the Tuner board go back to factory setting.Go to CH. pick Cable or Air rescan it again,all the chanels,it will be there.

You either lost the 24vdc feeding the backlight inverter circuits or the inverter board went out, look for 24vdc first, look for bad caps with leaking/bulging top.

Well for a start, they are NOT all the same models, also. a certain percentage, are expected to, and do fail. You see for a good repair, you need to contact, a local Sharpe, office, and ask, for a referral, to an Authorised Service Center, repairer. It is indeed worthwhile contacting Sharpe, as often, a service bulletin, has been issued, that maybe to do with your set, and if your set was in the repair bulletin, then you may even get your set fixed for free, or at the least very subsidized. So you see until, you contact, an Authorised Service Canter, and inquire, always ask for a "Quote" this way, you can find out what's wrong and how much, you can expect to pay.

This can be due to the WIDE/ASPECT/FORMAT settings on a cable box or the TV (check the remotes for any of these buttons).

See if your remote will work when standing in front of the tv. Since you bought a new remote and it is not working either you may have a bad power sensor or board on the tv set. Is the new remote the exact replacement for your tv set? If not it may not be programmed correctly.

is it the same when using dvd?

On your TV remote,press "INPUT".It is hard to find,but it should be there.Select"TV" and press"ENTER" button.I believe it is on the top of the list.On some cable boxes you have to select channel 3 and use the cable box remote to change channels.Also,make sure your TV antenna setting is set to "Cable" from the "Air/Cable"(Antenna setting).You will have to read your manual to find out how to get to this menu.After that do a "Ch Search"[Channel search].This automatically searches for all available channels and stores them. It will take some time.You will see the channel numbers as it does it's search.This is done so when you press channel up and down keys it will only go to next channel available and not to one with no signal.Hope this is of some help.

From the information you have provided failed capacitors in the power supply is likely causing the problem. The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts which include millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Integrated circuits and transistors can go bad. This can cause other components to become defective, which can have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. LC-37GD6U has DVI-I input, use VGA to DVI-A cable to connect your PC to the TV.

I too have this issue I beleive what is happening is the integrated tuner is not locking on to the channel because of a weak signal and then sending that error message . I am going to replace the cable from the splitter to this tv and see what happens. I have another new tv just installed from that splitter and it has all chanels. Remember to RE- run the locate all channels after anything is done to the cable splitter etc.
