Howdy,
It sounds like you have a Power Supply Board problem. The PSB is the center Board (towards left) after you remove the back off the TV. Remove Board from TV with the 6-7 screws. Replace capacitors CM811, CM812, CM817 & CS806; 1000ufd 25volts. The board on left, you will see the cap tops are swollen.

Sharp TV LC37D40U Aquos malfunction.
The blinking light is a indicator of a internal failure, it usually blinks as an error code, I have two suggestions, unplug the TV from the power outlet and let it set for at least 30 minutes not plugged into the wall outlet, then plug it back in and see if it has returned to factory defaults and returned to normal operation, if that didn't work then contact sharp @ 1-800-237-4277 and they will gladly assist you. Good luck !
No sound
Have you checked your Menu in Audio mode to make sure internal speakers are not turned off. Or that you are not in external sound mode. Also Sharp has previous problems with sound board mounting in the chassis as the heat sink strip on the main audio ic touches the metal sheilding and causing audio board to fail. Check with Sharp for updates and service bulletins to your model, they my repair this at no expense to you.

Let verify first to narrow down to where the problem can be. First, check the on screen sound set up menu to make sure the speakers are not set to OFF. If the setting is OK, then attach the powered PC speakers to the Audio Line out RCA jacks to see if you can get the sound there, if you do, then the problem can be in the power amp circuits, if you do not get the sound at RCA jacks, then the problem can be in the sound processor circuit. Please post back what you find.
I can't get a remote control to work on it. My
Take your remote to a retail store that sells sharp in your area and see if it works there. If it does then you have an issue with the IR receiver in the set. I would have it looked at by a service company at that point.
I can't play movies on my tv
Okay, this monitor setup is a little strange. There is an "AVC" component with this monitor that you use to connect everything. There is a 4 cable string (power, s-video, DVI, display port) that connects the AVC unit to the monitor. You must have all external equipment connected to the AVC unit, not to the TV itself. The connections on the TV talk to the AVC unit. I will assume you will be connecting the Blu-ray player via HDMI. HDMI is on input 4 on the back of the AVC unit. hit the input button on the remote or the TV and select input 4. There is a way of customizing the inputs to read out what you have connected to them (ex. DVD, VHS, etc.) to make it easier to use. This should get you signal from your blu-ray
