HI. So there are a counple of things you will have to ensure for the connectivity to be successful.

1. You are not connected to the internet via a router
2. You are not on a wireless network
3. Any firewalls on your computer are disabled
4. Your USB cable and port are good, and the remote is not connected to a USB hub but right into the compter.

Now, please do the following:

1. Uninstall the software
2. Download it again at http://logitech.com/myharmony
3. Install
4. In your computer's add/remove programs, uninstall the Logitech Desktop Messenger
5. Take out the battery, press and hold the "OFF" button, and re-insert it. The remote will display "Safe Mode"
6. Connect your remote and log in to your account
7. Click "Downloads" at the top and select "Firmware". The firmware on the remote will update.
8. Click "Replace Remote" to conduct a connectivity check.
9. Update the remote.

That should get the remote working. :)

We have owned and enjoyed our Harmony 880 for

There seems to be an issue with the Harmony 880/890 where, after a time, certain buttons that are used more often become unresponsive. They either need to be pressed very firmly (and sometimes held down for a few seconds), or they stop working entirely. This is probably due to the wearing out of the metallic bubble button that is beneath the film adhesive of the circuit board. However, the symptoms you describe can also be attributed to the IR LED's starting to go bad. Here are things you can look for to try to determine if the buttons are wearing out or the LED's are beginning to fail - Do the controls work any better if you are standing closer to the devices? Try from a 1-2 ft away. If things seem to improve, then the LED's are the culprit. If the results are the same, then watch the top of the LCD screen and when you push a problematic button, do you see the 'transmit wave' appear? Push the button down harder and hold it down longer. Does that make a difference? If so, the buttons are wearing out. If it turns out that the LED's are the issue, you can get these swapped out. Check my other posts for instructions. If the buttons are the problem, these are a little more difficult to repair, so you may want to try the 're-mapping' strategy as described below. Remember, the beauty of this remote is that you can create 'soft' keys using the LCD screen and re-map almost any key you like. Here is a link to a good post on the Logitech2_bing.gif forum which describes how to test the buttons and re-map them. Good Luck!

Dead. When I put on charger I get no response

Generally there are three possibilities (apart from the battery going bad) that can cause your remote not to charge:

1) Some folks have reported that the battery is not sitting tightly enough in the battery compartment. You can try folding a small piece of thin cardboard and place it between the battery and the back of the compartment. This will push the battery towards the front of the compartment and create a tighter connection against the contacts.

2) There have been reports of problems with some of the charging cradles in which the remote does not make sufficient contact with the contacts in the cradle. To ensure that the remote begins to charge, place it in the cradle and listen for a single beep. The slide show2_bing.gif should start and then, after a few moments the screen should darken. If you hear two beeps at any time, it means that the remote has lost contact with the charging cradle and has 'woken' and is no longer in charging mode. Wiggle the remote to ensure that it is sitting in the cradle and making contact.

3) If you still have trouble after you have tried everything above, there may be a loose connection inside the remote itself. There is a very small plug that connects the charging terminals on the remote to the battery compartment. In some cases, this plug can become loose (especially if the remote has been dropped). Opening the remote and checking to make sure that the plug is completely seated is another thing to check if all else fails.

Remote no longer lights up when picked up.

I would suggest doing the following:
1. In the software, click "Downloads", and click "Firmware"
2. After the remote has updated the firmware, click "Update Remote"

If that does not get the glow light working, then it is a hardware issue. If you are still in warranty you can call the wonderful support team to get the remote replaced.

I hope I was able to answer your question.

Try dkelly2671's suggestions first to ensure that you don't have an issue with your USB connection or current software installation. Also, make sure that your USB cable is ok (use another one, or if you have a digital camera, try downloading some pictures to your computer - they generally use the same kind of cable). If you still are not getting anywhere, you can try putting the remote in "Safe Mode" and doing a Firmware Update. To do this, launch the Logitech Remote software on your computer and click on "Downloads" (on the top menu bar). Then, take the battery out of your remote and at the same time you connect the USB cable to your remote (it should be already connected on the computer end)press and hold down the Off button at the top of the remote. This will put the remote in "safe mode". Continue to hold down the Off button until you see the message "safe mode requested" on the remote's screen and the screen starts blinking. Once you see this, you can release the Off button. Now, go back to your computer and click on "Firmware". If the software is able to communicate with the remote, an update to the remote's firmware should be executed. Good luck!

Hi broke the usb connection can it repaired

You can repair this problem yourself by simply re-soldering the USB port back on. If you feel uncomfortable doing this kind of repair, you can check on Ebay. Search on "Repair Harmony Remote". There are some folks who do certain repairs for reasonable prices. If you don't see something specifically for USB repair, ask the seller! Good luck!

Logitech 880 remote is in safe mode and says A.

Sometimes you want to put the remote in safe mode to recover from the LCD "blue screen of death" or other unsavory events. Usually you do this just before you update the remote's firmware (not software). So, you can try connecting to your computer via USB and, using the Logitech Software, go to Downloads-->Firmware. If you can get through the firmware update, you will probably be ok. Good luck

I need to replace the lcd in my harmony 880 remote

If Logitech cannot assist you with this, you can pick up a replacement LCD screen for about $25 on Ebay. It is a very easy fix. The screen is connected to the logic board with a simple ribbon cable. The grey top of the ribbon cable connector is gently lifted up and off and then 4 pressure-fitted tabs are simply squeezed to lift the LCD panel off the board. Good Luck!

The keys to Our LOgitech 880 no longer function -

First, open up the battery cover and remove the screw at the bottom of the compartment. There is a second screw at the top of the remote. Use a small phillips-head screwdriver. Then, the best way to open the case without marring the surface is to use your thumbnail (if it is a little long), or a thin strip of plastic (from an old credit-card will do). Near the bottom of the remote, on the left or right side, try to wiggle your nail (or the plastic) between the two halves of the remote. Once you open up a tiny space, push your nail in and down at an angle. Then, simply slide your nail up the side of the remote, keeping it at an angle. This will pop the tabs that are holding the two halves together. Once one side has been freed, do the other side. When you are finished exploring, you simply realign the pieces and snap it back to together. Good luck!
