Consult the owner manual--some if batteries removed for a few minutes all programmed units will be deleted but if that you will need to program other units back later.

I would suggest if you do not have the manual to google the model number of the set or remote to try to locate one online for free.

Hi. Unfortunately Logitech does not provide repair service for any products, so unless you are good at electronics and soldering this might not be an easy thing to fix. When my old Harmony 550 has button issues, I called Logitech about it and they gave me 50% off to upgrade the remote. This could be a good option for you.

If the buttons used to work then yeah it sounds like a hardware issue. You can go ahead and take the remote apart, but I don't think you will be able to fix it, unless you are good at soldering. Cleaning the contacts alone won't help. This same thing happened to the most used buttons on my Harmony One, and I just assigned the commands to the screen, so I could continue using the remote without those buttons.
If you want to try assigning the buttons to the screen, the steps in this article by Logitech will help:
I hope this helps.

Hi, this is a common issue with the Harmony 800 series. What I do, is use an elastic band to keep the remote firmly in place on the charger, so that it does not lose contact.
Hope it helps.

Simple and surprising solution.
Change the name of an Activity or Device and update again.
This solves the problem.

As an 880 owner myself, I think this is a common problem and documented out there on the internet.
This has happened to me a lot. (Okay, it's actually stopped now as the charged remote keeps shutting down and going into test mode.) But, back to your battery issue - I believe that the charging pins in the dock don't properly contact the equivalent pins on the back of the remote.
Try cleaning them with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol, then press down. You should hear one beep only - if you hear a beep followed by another beep, the unit has made contact then lost it.
Good luck! I think this really is a design flaw.

this is common, It may well work for most functions then let you down an one like volume! You should have at least three (but it should be more like 6) different codes to try and one should work. If your remote has a learning function and you have an original remote to hand, some have the ability to learn the function by direct lt beaming the remote command into the harmony itself.

If there is no display at all, then the remote must be disassembled, to check ribbon cable to LCD display, backlight, or to replace the display if necessary.

Replacement display is commonly available on Ebay.

See the information in the link.

My Harmony 890 won't charge correctly once the information is filled out, email logitech with the answers and the shipping/login information to see if they can assist you with this. Another things i would advise checking is the battery and what condition it is in.
