janecgriffin,
I do not know of, and could not find any specific problems related to capacitors in your unit, but there is no doubt a problem in the industry with the electrolytic capacitors produced today and probably some of the problem capacitors could have wound up in your set.
In addition to capacitor problems most eletronics today suffer from the removal of lead from the solder and also just the fact that they are being made in a country with no experience with the technology.
Plasma TVs have a history of problems which exceed their predecessors (direct view CRTs). This is in part due to the fact that the technology is new and was probably not ready to be launched on the general public.
That being said let's try to solve your problem. From your description of the problem, I believe that you lost the mainboard. If you still have a standby light, and it may be blinking, the power supply is ok and the mainboard is bad. This should be available at
http://www.encompass.com . Most sets now cannot be reapaired without changing the boards. The technology does not allow the normal technician the ability to change out the bad parts. This should solve your problem.
Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.
