Have a look at the settings and make sure the correct region code is set up in your player. If you find a "0" as the region code it means your player can play all regions.

Contacted a Directv Tech to get a rc64 remote and use the 10835 code to get the TV to turn on/off and volume up/down to work!

This is often the problem when the output is set incorrectly. i.e. you are using component cables and the output of the unit is set to video or such, try looking in set up on the menu screen and see id you can change the output.

The other time I have had this happen is when the RGB plugs were in the wrong hole.

to find the laser remove the cover, with the dvd tray open. now you may have to remove the piece of plastic that covers the dvd when it plays. below that is your laser. the lense itself is about the size of a pencle & clear plastic. cleaniong the laser with a swab is a lot better that relying on those lens cleaning kit you can get. as for the ic i don't know what you mean? good luck.

Try to check the power supply output side where anything could came into contact with positive and negative line for which when you press play button then it shuts down.

RCA video cables handle analog signals. HDMI cables carry digital video signals. You need a converter. If you are using a component video converter, check if you swapped two of the three RCA video cables. (There are some A/V projectors that can do the translation of RCA and HDMI internally. Most modern tv remotes are not normally designed to be repaired. You will possibly need to replace it. there are plenty of cheaper after market version that will do the job just as well. Your other option, and yes I know this is a silly answer, when you want to mute the TV is to simply press the volume down button to zero then turn it back up when you want sound.
