Picture looks like you are looking through a peep

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

My rca tv turns off and on by itself

Is there a prankster nearby thast has a remote tuned to your set? As a young lad I used to play this trick on my neighbors daughter.

You should also investigate whether it is timed.. that is has a regular interval or time that it does happen. It could be another appliancwe doing this A/C ,Security system or some other eklectronic device. The dog has the remote under the cushion?

My grandaughter somehow cut the screen on my lcd

Some sets have a protective screen as well as the LCD panel. It is the LCD panel that is expensive. If you can post the model number, I can check to see if there is a protective screen or not. The cut/scratch won't really effect the funtioning of the screen. If there is no protective screen, the use of a windshield repair kit might fill in the cut sufficiently to make it unseen.

My tv was having some

What was it that you have tried? Let me guess you tried messing with the Bright Lighting Picture and have chosen a different preset. Is this correct? But now you have no picture. Mostly suggests a problem with the CRT board which is a common problem in may RCA CRTs I have seen. First up, did you try the reset? Unplug it from the power source hold for 1 minute and plug it back in. See if it resolves the issue and let me know.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. You’ll need to reset the picture. Press the Menu button and then use up or down arrow button to select the Video menu. Now press the right arrow button and then use up or down arrow button to select Video Reset then press the right arrow button to reset the Video menu options to original values or factory default.

If still the problem persists, then you’ll need to check for local interference such as an electrical appliance or power tool and also check the antenna. If required change the direction of the antenna. To resolve the issue of dark and blurry Screen please check that all the cables from your dish network are fine and connected firmly. If yes then you'll need to pull off the front of the TV, behind the speaker grill there would be a panel. Remove the panel and check for a black box hanging over there. It has 6 controls on it, 3 are marked as focus and 3 as screen. You'll need to adjust the screen. If you turn these too high you can damage a tube. So we are doing real small adjustments. Turn the color off on the TV and adjust the red, blue & green controls up till you get a fine picture. Also adjust the focus until you get a clear picture.

And, if it doesn't resolve your issue then it is an intermittent blue picture tube, a bad blue driver transistor on the CRT board, a bad connection on the blue CRT board. Please replace whichever is required.

Please make sure to turn off and unplug the TV for at least 1 hour (this will drain off current from all components especially capacitors) before you perform any repairs. It is always recommended to repair any TV if you know how to solder/re-solder and have an electrical experience as the TV sets consists of very high voltages even when in off position.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rear projection tv suddenly stopped working

Hi .

The second click that you hear is an internal device called protection circuit that is shutting down the TV, and forcing the PSU to +5V low only to keep the TV in standby.
That is called protect mode.

If the TV stays in stand-by, with the LED light on, but does not respond to remote, or to the buttons on the chassis, then that means that the TV has gone in protect (safe) mode because an internal fault had been detected.

In that case the TV is usually faulty.

The fuse on the PSU board is not causing protect mode. When the fuse has blown , then the unit stays completely off.

Common faults on this model are Electrolytic capacitors on PSU board (power board), convergence ICs (convergence board). The parts must be tested before replacement. Less common faults could cause the same problem.

Follow the basic troubleshooting on this article: Why my TV does not start up and remains in...

If that does not work, contact RCA ringing the support number listed on the owners manual to get the TV repaired by a licensed technician.

Regards.

The tv was working and made a hiss and pop and

When you replace a flyback on an RCA Model, Always replace the Horizontal Output tranistor with it. These models are notorious for for bad solder connections in and around the HV area. Also check around the High Voltage Area for bad HV Scaning Capacitors. These are usually square shaped , for cracking, arching, and swelling. Replace if found to be defective. One more thing check the neck of the picture tubes for cracks or arching inside a tube when trying to turn the set on. Sometimes a bad scanning cap will go defective and drive the high voltage so high it cracks the Green CRT.
