Need to know what frequency locql chnnels like
These are assigned by the FCC. Google search "ntsc channel frequencies" and you will find what you are looking for. The first site I found listed (matrixtest) listed the channel and frequency. For Example, I found on their chart that CH 11 operates at 199.25 MHz or 199250000 Hz. I hope this was helpful, best wishes.

Find remaining recording space on SAMSUNG SIR-S4040R
You will have to "Find space" by deleting something/anything to make "space" for "New" material. Basically it is trying to tell you the drive is filled up and ya need to either delete or cut & paste away to some other media, some data, to get more space to record more stuff. OK?

Want to run my dtv receiver through new digital converter box.
You will not be able to record local station from a DTV converter connected thru a directv receiver unless there is a a/v input on the directv samsung receiver. Also check the user manual for this receiver if recording from an external source such as a DTV converter box is possible. The answer to seperating the DTV converter box from the directv samsung receiver is possible if your tv has multiple inputs. Try connecting the DTV box to the RF input and the directv samsung box to an a/v input then change inputs using the tv remote. you will need an av cable (yellow/ red/white) for the directv box and a rf jumper cable for the DTV box.

Used box with balance on card
The Receiver will show to have a balance on it, so it must be paid before it can be activated, regardless of the access card number.

Set Up for DVR
Hello: If you have only one incoming cable, just hook it up on SAT 1. What happens is that you will only be able to record what you're watching. If you want two incoming cables, just change the LNB to a dual LNB if you have a round dish. If you have an oval dish, most likely has a multiswitch LNB, so all you need to do is hook up another cable to that LNB and run it to the receiver and put it on SAT 2.
This way, you can watch one program and record another program on a dif. channel at the same time. Either way, you need to take out the LNB from the dish for one or the other option. It's best to contact your service provider and get a tech, to do the changes. It's not costly.

Need codes to program remote
I've got the three digit code, you may have a remote that requires a 4 or 5 digit code. However 166, 007, 020, 053, 082, 187, 266, 347 are all the 3 digit codes.

On the converter box that
Any -1, -2 channles considered as a off-air antenna channels. I assume you have the off-air antenna and good reception on it. So make sure your off air antenna hooked up to your receiver.
If everything is hooked up right and your reception on antenna is good, try to trace the line for your antenna. may find any visual problems such as loosen up, dog chewed the cable etc :D
Last thing if you don't find solution by yourself is call your service provider for service call.
Good luck

My SIR-S4040R no longer turns on..
If the unit doesn't power on at all, no fan spinning and no power light, then it's either your power supply, and/or motherboard. Your hard drive could be damaged as well. You can find power supplies by googling tivo power supplies.
You may be better off sending out the unit for testing/repair. I recommend CCS in Indiana. Fast, and friendly service, used them many times. You will need to lose anything that was on the unit (settings, season passes and recordings) to ensure the drive is fully functional.

DVR S4040R Tivo box
Your hard drive may have crashed. Can you hear any disk activity when you plug in the unit? The hard drive can be replaced, but probably better to either just get a replacement unit (you can get them on eBay for $40 or less) or upgrade to a newer receiver.

Check out dvrupgrade.com - they sell replacement hard drives and do-it-yourself upgrade kits to allow you to use the USB ports, and also add other functionality.

Export via USB to hard drive
The USB ports on this unit are non-functional unless you hack it. There are several methods of doing so, but the easiest is probably to purchase an upgrade kit from dvrupgrade.com. You can either purchase a replacement hard drive, or software to do it yourself.
After you do this, the USB ports can be used to connect a network device, and you can use different software programs to export and import programming. You will also have other features you normally wouldn't have on the stock unit. Good resources on this topic are tivocommunity.com and dealdatabase.com.
