You need to purchase updates from Garmin or try the store you bought it from. They may stock update cd's

My first question is: Is this happening when connected to an external power source such as a car charger/adapter? or is this while on battery power? If on battery power, then the battery is not fully charged or is weak and can not hold a full charge. There is another possibility too and that is that the battery is not receiving voltage from the charger because the rear mini-USB port is loose (a common problem on the Nuvi 11xx, 12xx, 13xx, 14xx & 25xx models). One more issue can be the firmware version. Older firmware was unstable and caused the unit to reboot. If you are getting constant pop-up messages that the unit is about to shut down, then this is a good indication of a USB port issue (loose or broken). Are you powering the Garmin with the car adapter that had the traffic receiver built in? Is the traffic feature turned on in the Garmin?

Have you rebooted the computer? Next would be to try clearing the cache in your browser. You may also have add-one running that are preventing the GPS from communicating with the browser. Try disabling them.

Is the battery dead? Try it with the external power attached, see what happens. If still no go check the fuse in the end of the car charger, it may have blown.

Do you have custom POI's loaded that are set up for Speed/Red Light cameras? As far as I am concerned, the 1440 does not alert to speed cams out of box...

There should be an icon, at the top of the screen, indicating when the battery is low. A portion of the battery means, less than fully charged.

make sure it is installed. you probably only installed the lower 49 states. also BC is in Canada. if it is a Nuvi 40 or 50 you may have bought a lower 49 states device by that A-hole bestbuy agent swearing that it really does have canada just to make the sale.

I assume you are talking about a VivoFit. it automatically reset overnight. if it is not, be sure to sync it up with Garmin Express to make sure it has all software up to date. otherwise call Gamrin for a replacement

try powering the unit on while holding the bottom right of the screen. this should allow you to choose what language as part of a master reset.
