I think your card is damaged. Try connecting to your computer and check available space. Take a backup and format it from your PC, check if it is formatting completely. If the card is not Class 10 you will also have problem recording movie from a camera. You need a high speed card to record video.

Because you did not give a clue to what powershot model you have, I have to keep my answer less specific. Every camera has a setting, called automatic. On Canon cameras most of the time it is a green or black camera logo on the main dial. It also could be you chose one of the scenes programs, like shooting on the beach or in snow. When you switch to automatic, all pictures should be more or less correct. The camera should prevent you from taking pictures when there is not enough light, in automatic. If your camera is in automatic, and the pictures are still to dark, something else must be wrong. If the automatic trick works, read the manual, to check when you can use the other modes.

Maybe it has a battery for the date settings, and the battery is faulty.

Give the camera some time. Don't remove the battery till the reset is done. I hope your battery was charged before you started the reset. If the battery runs out of power, you must charge it comlpete, before putting it in again. I hope the reset went well. If not only try a reset with a fully charged battery.

Your camera has an electronic view finder. To switch between the view finder and the display, you have to press the DISP. button several times and look what happens in Shooting mode and what in Playback mode. If only the display will come on, and the viewfinder stays black the camera will have a defect.
