HT-5100, PROTEC notice on display

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.

Won't play DVD's

Are there any stickers on the CD? these disks spin at high revolutions at first then they spin down and run at a constant speed. At first its trying to find the start and end of the disk and any information on it that it can give you about the disk. If the balance is not good it can warble the lens so it cant focus on the info. There are 2 sides of the CD and DVD one usualy has a lable with the title and a picture, the other side is the data side. The data side should always be down and you should look at it in good light to see if there is any finger prints on it or anything stuck to the bottom. I know it sounds dumb but its easy to sit it on somthing and it pick up tape, a sticker, a price tag anything and you are unaware of it.

HT DB600 I NEED TO KNOW THE CORRECT PLUGS THAT GO

APPLY CABLE CONNECTION ELIMINATIONS TECHNIQUE.

First, make sure the speakers, woofers are connected to the surround unit receptacle area located at rear end of device. Second, make sure the power cable is connected to the surround device at rear end and plugged into external power outlet like an extension cord. Third, the remaining connection ports on the surriound unit are for transfering signals back and forth to TV or DVD, VCR, DVR, player devices. Usually the surround unit may be capable of connections to more than once recorder device causing the prevailence of several remaining ports receptables located at rear of unit. However, first, attempt to acheive connection to display unit like a TV set. if that were successful, the last remaining port wirings would be expected to allow for DVD, VCR, DVR, Media devcie connections. The surround device may not have been acquired with several cable wires to connected to every available home appliance. However, the surround device ports are several at rear area of unit to support several home media player connectivity. If several home player device are required to be connected to the surround system, the cable wiring may have to be acquired from retails to complete the signal sharign and splitting process. Refer to the user guide on step by step instruction on achieving connectivity. Also provided on the user guide are details contributing toward acquirign accessories for the device or performing manufacturers diagnostics.

Where Can I find HT-DB600

Actually, you don't need the adapters. All you need are conductive posts of the same diameter as the plug openings.

I just chopped up some large paper clips and attached them to the end of a piece of speaker wire, then inserted the paper clip 'posts' into the adapter openings, and attached the other end of wire to the speakers (forming a kind of bridge).

And viola! Worked perfectly! It takes a little effort, but is much less time consuming then hunting down antiquated proprietary plugs and costs nothing!
