Hi Eddie, it's Jack at Dyson.

In order to confirm why your DC59 is behaving in this way, we would need to take a few further details from you - including whether or not your machine pulses on and off before shutting down, and whether it displays any solid or flashing coloured LED lights.

When you have your machine easily to hand, please call our freephone UK Helpline on 0800 298 0298. Our experts will talk you through some simple diagnostic checks to pinpoint the cause of the issue. If they determine that a replacement part is needed, they'll also be able to confirm if you're still within your free Dyson 2-year parts and labour guarantee.

We'll look forward to speaking with you. Just to let you know, we're available from 8am-8pm from Monday to Friday, and 8am-6pm on weekends.

Hi there Jacqueline, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your Dyson cordless vacuum is pulsing on and off with the filter in place, the filter may need a wash. I'd also strongly recommend checking the bin inlet, wand and motorised floor tool for any blockages, following the steps shown in our video guide:

When you check the bin inlet, make sure the bin inlet flap is able to open and close freely, and that no debris is jamming it in place.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue. If you'd like further assistance from our experts after giving this a try, please call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). We'll be able to talk you through some simple diagnostic checks when you have your machine fully charged and easily to hand.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

If you run your DC59 without the filter in place, this allows the airflow to enter into the motor through the top of the cyclone pack, bypassing the rest of the machine. It doesn't necessarily suggest there is an issue with the filter itself.

If you've recently washed the filter and your DC59 still pulses on and off when you pull the trigger, this suggests there is a blockage somewhere in the motorised floor tool, wand or bin inlet.

Please follow each of the steps shown in our Support video to locate and remove any obstructions. It's also a good idea to check that the bin inlet flap opens and closes freely.

I'm confident that removing any obstructions from your DC59 will restore normal performance. If you'd like any further advice from our experts once you've given this a try, please give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Hi Mary, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59 is engineered to make a pulsing noise to warn you if something is stopping airflow from passing through the machine. The motor will then shut itself down for protection.

This would usually be caused by a temporary blockage in the floor tool, wand or bin inlet, but the filter may also need a wash. Our video guide will walk you through each area to check:

I'm confident removing any blockages and giving the filter a wash will get your DC59 up and running again.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC59 doesn't seem to be charging. If you're recharging your machine in the docking station, make sure the end of the charger cord is correctly and firmly inserted into position. If the charger cord is not correctly installed, it may not be making effective contact with the machine. In normal use, DC59 should recharge from depleted within 3.5 hours.

If you're plugging the charger cord directly into the machine and have continued to experience this issue, please get in touch with the Dyson Customer Helpline directly when you have your machine to hand. Our experts will be happy to talk you through some simple diagnostic checks - and if a replacement part is needed, they can confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty.

Hi Paul, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59's motor is engineered to make a pulsing noise to warn you if something is preventing airflow from passing through the machine. This could mean the washable pre-filter is overdue for a wash, but could also be caused by a blockage in the floor tool, wand or bin inlet.

Following the simple steps shown in our video guide should help you resolve this:

I'm confident that washing the filter and removing any obstructions will get your DC59 up and running again. But if you would like some further help after giving this a try, just call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59's washable pre-filter is held in place in the top of the cyclone pack by the black rubber seal around the top of the filter. It should fit snugly, but should also be very easy to remove for its monthly maintenance with no screws or catches to undo.

When the vacuum is running, the filter will be held in place by the machine's powerful suction. When you're not using the machine, avoid holding it sideways or inverting it to help ensure the filter remains in place. When you're replacing the filter after it's been washed and allowed to dry, it should also help to press it firmly back into place.

If you'd like any additional advice I would encourage you to contact the Dyson Customer Helpline directly so we can take some further details. You can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Hi Dave, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59's motor will make a rapid pulsing noise to warn you if something is stopping airflow from passing through the machine. The motor will then shut off for protection.

This should be quick and easy to resolve by checking the motorised floor tool, wand and bin inlet for blockages. It's also a good idea to give the washable pre-filter a rinse in cold water if this hasn't been done recently - we recommend washing it at least once a month. Make sure the filter is allowed to dry completely for at least 24 hours before replacing it.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue. If you would like further assistance after giving these steps a try, please call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

In Boost mode, DC59 offers 100 airwatts of suction to tackle really stubborn dirt or clinging pet hair. To activate Boost mode, just hold down the on/off trigger so the vacuum is running, then press and release the Boost button on the rear of the vacuum. To change back to regular power, you would follow the same procedure - holding down the trigger and pressing the Boost button a second time.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

When installing DC59's docking station, use appropriate hardware/fixings for your wall type and ensure that the dock is mounted securely. Ensure no pipe work (gas, water, air) or electrical cables, wires or duct work are located directly behind the drilling area. The dock must be mounted in accordance with all local laws and regulations and applicable codes and standards. Dyson recommends the use of protective clothing, eye ware and materials as necessary.

The charger cord assembly attaches to the docking station as shown below:
