Toshiba 42H81 - Constant jumping picture on scren

The picture just keeps jumping on my Toshiba 42H81. The TV will show perfect for about 2 hours, then the picture starts jumping. If I turn off the tv for a few hours, when I turn it back on, it shows good for about 30 minutes, then the picture starts jumping again. Now the jumping is constant. Last year, I had the same problem and I paid a repair man $400 to change the original board with a refurbished board. However, it seems like the problem has reoccurred. Can someone tell me what is the problem here or is this tv a lemon? It doesn't make sense to me why would I encounter the same problem if the whole board was changed. Walt

Also,check micro fuses F851,F852,etc.
and with a good digital meter, check resistors feeding B+ to
convergence circuit.
I have been using Stk392-110T made by Toshiba with no re-calls.Hitachi also has an upgrade IC.
And be sure to check your soldering of IC pins--good connect,
with no short.....T.

Power light blinking TV Won't turn on

The power supply is in protect mode. There is most likely a short on one of the boards, or the high voltage generator, or a scan amplifier, or the power supply itself has a failure. Without troubleshooting the set it is impossible to know.

Likely to be the STK convergence chips causing a protection circuit to switch the TV off. Have you got any onscreen convergence problems (i.e, colour fringes)?

GO again into the customer menu and look for something that says Hall, Surround etc--I have seen this before--usually it is a setting that creates a problem where the background sounds are so loud you cannot hear the people talking......go thru every section of the menu--I be you will find this is your problem.

Let me know what you find--I am here to help people. I do not think you have a circuit problem--only some thing in the menu has been set to the wrong place.

If this has helped you, rate this solution as I do this here for FREE.

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Look at some photos if they show your problem you have a convergence trouble.

Total parts cost if parts purchased on EBAY will be under 30 dollars.

I can step you through the fix but if convergence it means both of the STK-392-110 CHIPS need to be replaced.

The hard part here is getting at them--I can tell you the best way to do this as I have fixed over 1,000 sets with this kind of problem.

Other than the chips there are a few resistors around them that need to be checked--easy and they are cheap parts if needed.

Let me know your skill--I will post photo of the chips and what typical convergence problems look like.

If this information is helpful rate this solution as "very helpful" as I do this here for free.
