Toshiba 50H72 50" Rear Projection Television - Page 6 Questions & Answers
Put new ic chips in and the problem still exsists
Many times when the convergence modules go bad, they blow some of the
resistors that feed it power. Look for little small low
resistance resistors right in the vicinity of the modules.

Rear Projection Tv Problem! black and white... Please help

Red?Green picture
You may have inadvertantly loosened a cable connection to the DMD or logic board... You might be able to shut it down, unplug the unit and remove the lamp.. With the lamp out take a good flashlight and shine it into the lamp housing area inside the Tv and see if you have any wire obstructions that you could have contacted with the edge of the housing as you were removing or inserting the lamp...

Toshiba 50H72 rear projection TV. NO Video
Bad caps and solder connections, especially in around the 9v regulator just about center of the defection circuit... Not a terribly expensive job and certainly worth the repair if the cabinet is in good condition...

Tv problem
Hi,
I just serviced this model, same problem as noted. I did a resolder job on the power/drive PC board. This was NOT the problem! The problem acts like an electrolytic capacitor issue or horizontal drive amp. Once I get my hands a service manual & schematics, we'll resolve it. I'll post my results AFTER Super Bowl.

Toshiba power light
i would look at the front panel switch assym. for loose connection (ground)
Toshiba projection tv 50 inch
Something is preventing the power supply from operating:
Possible causes in order of likelihood:
1) Convergence amps failed overloading the supply (See if you can disconnect them)
2) High Voltage circuit has died. (Right on schedule since your TV is 10 years old)
3) One of the CRTs has shorted
4) The power supply itself has died (Is there a lot of dust covering it?)
See if you can isolate the failure by working down the list.
Hope Ya Fix it!
The bottom Circumference Convergence is WAY off and won't adjust
This is most likely a convergence amplifier problem. The repair shop will charge you hundreds of dollars to fix it. If you're up to the challenge you can fix it for less than $50. If you search this site for "convergence" you will find lots of posts. Here's one I posted for another person with this problem and I offered a couple of links that should be a good deal of help:

If you have more questions please ask. This repair is not impossible, but if you've never soldered electrical components before it may be a bit challenging.
Lastly, I would like you to know that I don't get paid for this, I just like trying to help. If you find this information helpful I hope you'll rate the solution positively. Thanks and good luck.
Need a new projection tube?
can you look inside the set with the power off and see if you can see or smell anything, look for small paper (capacitor exploded)
Flashing picture when start up
What i would do id purchase a can of freeze from radio shack
wait till the picture is good then freeze one ic at a time till the problem shows up, once it shows up let it warm back up and refreeze to make sure you got the correct part.
found this on anther site:
My first guess is an electrolytic cap in the main power supply and/or a voltage regulator that feeds the deflection amplifiers.
The cost of repair is not much; the greatest challenge is finding the
bad cap because there are so many of them and scattered through out the
sections.
If you have a scope and can look at some waveforms and voltages around
the deflection and power supply feeds you may be able to zero in on it
right away

Toshiba 50H72 50 in. Rear
possibly the STK392-110 ic's? it seems like it is the vertical convergence.

I think the color tube is shot
Sounds more like the convergance ic's

No picture, but power light and sound OK
The problem you have there was a loss of vertical deflection followed by a complete failure of Q301, the vertical Ic LA7833S.
It may have been in part due to the feed caps located in that circuit and there will likely be NO outward signs of the failure.
The Ic needs to be replaced and the electrolytics in that circuit need to be measured with and ESR meter and replaced if bad.
If it's starting to sound a bit beyond your ability I strongly suggest having a qualified shop do this because you can overheat the vert Ic easily just soldering it in...
If you have a shop do it you might ask what they charge to replace the vertical Ic and ESR the caps in that circuit. Explain to them what you have here with regards to how it went out, dropping to a horizontal line before going completely dead... The more detail you can give the easier it will be for the tech to troubleshoot the problem.
Good Luck!
