Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.
• TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

CONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

No, you have bad convergence ckt, conv amps need to be replaced,this is an electronic problem and not a mechanical.

Coarse adjustment is done by adjusting the convergence coil on the neck of the tube, also the skew is adjusted there. The user menu should have a convergence adjustment option.

Yes,the tv still good.I rather spend 300-400 dollars.Than 1100-1200 for a new one.The average tv replacement about 15 years.Using 6-7 hours a day.

Hi,

You can try unplugging the TV and leaving it unplugged for about an hour. This will reset the TV back to the factory settings and can possibly let the TV operate. Most of the time this will not repair the TV. This is a common problem with projection TV sets. These sets have a safety feature built into them that will keep the TV from powering up if it detects a problem with the circuitry in the TV. Heat is the number one enemy of electronics and the projection TV sets run hot. This will cause the capacitors to leak and change value. The resistors can burn and change value. This will cause other parts to fail. This can have a domino effect and will require that the set be diagnosed with test equipment by a trained electronic tech. I wish I could tell you there was a button that you could push to make your TV work, but that is not the case. Normally the problem is in the power supply of the TV and the repair will be in the $400 ballpark to have it repaired once it has passed the warranty period. Normally I feel the extended warranty are a waste of money but I recommend extended warranties for projection TV sets due to their high failure rate.

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!
