Toshiba W522 VHS VCR Questions & Answers
I HAVE A TOSHIBA VCR/DVD
Usually VCRs do not offer specifically labelled tracking buttons as such, however they may incorporate tracking into their channel UP/DOWN buttons, both on the front of the main unit and/or remote. Some brands also offer V-LOCK (vertical lock or still image adjustment) (in pause mode during playback) to stabilise the image, reducing vertical jitter, which again can be adjusted as required using the same buttons as used for tracking. In most cases, pressing both CH UP and CH DOWN together while the tape is playing should centre track (revert back to auto tracking) the unit.
I am sure if your VCR has channel buttons on it, try pressing either one while a tape is playing. See if it affects the tracking at all. If it does, press both buttons together for 5 seconds or so, then release - auto/centre tracking takes over.
It costs nothing to try this, and it won't hurt your machine or your tapes.
Which rca ports are incoming
they are labeled in or out, last resort, check the manual it should have a photo of the back of the unit showing which is which. If you have no manual and the connectors are not labeled, just try plugging one pair into the tv or amplifier, if it works you got the right one, if not try the other pair, you won't hurt anything by getting it wrong and it is one way to find out which is which

The file is in the pdf format. If you don't already have the Adobe Free Reader you can download it from this website:

VCRs are not digital, yes you can run it into the HDTV, but it is not going ot be HD quality, as you probably know... ususally you can use cable or component cables (red, white, yellow) to connect to the TV. If your VCR has RGB cables, use those.

With the up and down channel selector buttons. You will have to keep pressing either button till it shows AV (something IE 1 or 2 etc). Depending what it says on the front panel for the socket.
Recommend a universal remote if you can't get a new one.
How do you eliminate horizontal lines on tape
Hello
Take off the cover and get inside where you can see the head,it is a big round drum that is placed at a tilted angle.
Inspect it visually to see if there is a built up of magnetic puke around it. If it looks clean,do not touch it
If you find dirt or buildup on the head or the guides that handle the tape, best cleaning it a cotton q tip. Do NOT use any cleaning agents as they will damage the head and guides.
A good cleaning should help solve your problem

Hi,
This is a common problem on this unit and more often it is not a wise option to get it repaired. The cost of a used VCR ( same ) is even less than $25 :-
http://cgi.ebay.com/Toshiba-W522-VHS-VCR-/120657308416?pt=VCRs&hash=item1c17bc6b00
If you search more, you could even get it around $20.
So, in other words, repair is only feasible if the cost would not be more than $25 and it would work for minimum for few months or a year or so.
I suspect a load belt or gear is not allowing tape to eject. This TV needs to see that all inputs are at rest position in order to
function. You may find that removing tape is all that is
necessary(defective tape). Most likely you will need service on this
unit. You can try unplugging TV from wall and resetting(I don't think this
will work,but worth a try).Otherwise I think this is a mechanical problem.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
I have a Toshiba VCR
If the vcr has two scarts connect the DVR player to one and select that imput. Watch the program using the the other scart connected to the TV. Press record on the vcr and then start the DVR player going. If it doesn't have two scarts use the front panel jacks to connect the DVR player.
The only time you won't be able to record a program is if somekind of anti-copy system is employed.
Problem recording of hd tv with cable box from
Here are a few items to check and how you need to set your recording.
1. Your HD box should have a coax out (or to TV) connection on the back of the box.
2. Connect a coax cable from the back of the HD box to the "RF IN (FROM ANT.)" in the back of the VCR.
3. When you set your VCR to record you need to set it to copy channel 3 and tune the HD box to the channel you want to record.
This should fix your problem...
Good Luck...
Lost remote on toshiba w528
You can select those to record with out the remote by setting the record timer to record. For example, if you want to record from one of those input channels on Friday 1 January 2009 at 9:00 to 11:00, it will allow you to choose that as an input channel in that program menu. If not, you will want to buy a replacement remote. VC-522 is no longer available, but VC-617 and other models are.
