Just received a new remote

Hi,
If new remote is also not working on Toshiba MW20FM1 then remote sensor located on front of combo would be defective and became unable to receive remote signals.
Remote sensor is located between power light and channel button on combo front and replacement is not user level job because you need to remove back cover of combo then complete chassis will some out to get access to front control buttons board where remote sensor is mounted.
Required remote sensor part number is BZ614199 and local tv repair shop will help you to replace it.
Hope these info will help.
Thanks.

I have the Toshiba TVVCR/DVD

Hi,

I can't provide the codes for you unless you can let me know which universal remote you are using. The code is specific to the remote you are using rather than the TV.

Please post back with the brand and model number of your remote control. I will then be able to help you obtain the correct codes and program your remote.

Regards,
BElectric.

p,s. In the meantime, try code 0000 if your remote uses 4-digit codes, 000 if it uses 3-digit codes or 00 if 2-digit. This is a generic Toshiba code which works for numerous universal remotes . . .

I have a Toshiba mw20fm1 TV combo. The problem is

Hi.

The TV is in forced standby called protection, the DVD is a separate circuit and will keep running when this happens. If the TV is taken apart you will see that the DVD is litteraly a completely separate device.

About the TV: what you are getting is a special mode called protection that kicks in when an internal fault is detected, in form of incorrect voltage (eg. blown component, no volts or wrong volts) or incorrect power draw (eg in case of short, big power draw).
When this happens the TV forces the PSU to keep the standby mode, without starting. The TVs are designed like that to prevent a fault inflicting bigger damage.

All you can do from user side is disconnecting the power cord for one hour or two. That will drain power completely and may resolve minor faults caused by accumulation of charge in circuits and PSU capacitors.

If that does not work, the TV must be taken apart and tested by a technician. Common faults that can affect a TV of this type and this age are PSU and Convergence, the flyback converter must also be tested.

Just got a new remote for my set, does not work.

Hi,
I have seen a few toshiba's with this exact same problem. This is most likely due to the IR receiver in the tv itself being bad or bad solder joint. This is not the easiest thing to replace due to the dis-assembly required. You may want to consider having a technician do it or someone who is technically incline and good at soldering. If you have any other questions let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

Curved Greenish yellow band across the bottom of picture.

The problem sounds like convergence amps have failed but without the model number I can't really tell you what STK number they are... If you want to reply with the model number I'll look up the schematics for it and let you know.

Resetting the v-chip password so i can remove it and watch all that i want

I had the same problem. Here's what Toshiba emailed to me:

  1. Disconnect the AC power for at least one minute to reset the clock.
  2. Adjust the volume to the minimum using the Volume down button on the front of the unit.
  3. Press and hold the Volume down button on the front of the unit and the 0 button on the remote control at the same time, holding them down for at least 10 seconds.
  4. The user menu will appear with the V-Chip cursor blinking.
  5. Press the ENTER key on the remote control and the NEW PASSWORD menu will appear.
  6. Enter your new password.
Hope that helps!!
