I've included the text I posted for that here:
This is a known fault with some early HS10s. There is a sony tech
bulletin (30-2003-123) details the fault. an earlier bulletin
(30-2003-032) claims this affected all models but gave no solution,
other than wait for unit to cool down! :-/
30-2003-123 notes
that models 10,001-16,708 were affected. I worked around the problem by
setting high altitude mode which improves the cooling enough not to
fault. No problems during regular use since I did this 6 years ago.
Official fix is to replace the lamp cover assembly unit (X-4041-024-1)
with unit (X-4041-024-2)
The fault is caused by deformation of
the cover assembly due to increased temperature which causes a
microswitch to indicate the cover is not installed correctly. I read
about someone solving this by placing a matchstick between the cover
and switch!

if you reset the settings to factory default and swaped out cables, then the oly thing left to do would be to realign the lcd panels. unfortunately, only sharp service centers can do this easily. they have a tool specifically made for lcd panrl alignments on sharp projectors. you could try av solutions in ny. the'yr pretty good.

This problem is more likely to be the Green LCD gone. The green LCD's job is to filter out the green on the picture where it isn't necessary so If the green LCD starts to fail, it will let through too much green light. I think its more in the middle because of the heat from the bulb over time.

Unfortunately an expensive repair or total replacement are probably your only real options. Electronically the projector is fine but your problem lies in the physical optics part of it. Either part of the lense assembly or the refraction array is likely damaged or at least very dirty. I wouldn't suggest trying to clean it yourself as this is a 3 LCD projector and all 3 must align perfectly after cleaning or you'll end up with seperated colors. It could also be one of the LCD's is damaged but from your description I don't think so.
I have a client that had the exact same issue with a different VPL model and it was cheaper to go out and buy a new projector than to fix it.
