Vertical colored lines on Sony KF-50WE610

Hi Lucian

This is a common Mainboard failure problem on Projectors.

The unfortunate thing is that this can only be solved by having the part repaired or replaced.

The tv will not turn

It is the projection lamp or bulb. I had the same problems. You need to replace the lamp which is located in the front under the cover. The plastic cover extends the length or width of the TV. The cover can be kind of tricky to take off, but it is just held in by pop-in type rivets that snap in like a male into a female hole along with removing the 2 large screws on the back side on each left and right side. After you remove the screws the front pops off and it may feel like you are going to break the plastic front cover, but it does pop off and pull straight out. The lamp will be visible right in the front and is held in by two screws and after removing the screws the entire light assembly slides right out which is plugged into a socket. You can buy just the bulb or for a few dollars more the entire plastic box assembly with the bulb already in it. Hope this helps.

Sony KF42WE610 bulbs burn out in 1-2 months

Ift is not the fan, it is either a short on the bulb socket, or the small high voltage board that powers the bulb is faulty and must be replaced.

Sudden picture problems - color distortion and "negative" picture appearance

This looks more like a convergence problem, if you have light the lamp is ok.

Try first unplugging the TV set power cord (and all other cables) for ten or twnty minutes, to reset the unit.

    KF-42WE610

This sounds like an issue with the optical block assembly. Sony had a problem with this part in a lot of the KF-series television.

They extended the warranty of optical blocks in the KF-42WE620, which doesn't help you but from what your saying this sounds like the issue.

I have read that OEM compatible LCD Rear Proj bulbs don't typically last as long as the OEM name brands... is this true?

The answer is yes and no. Typically OEM compatible or OEM equivalent lamps last as long as the original, but you have to remember that since it isn't the XL2100u that it's not guaranteed to work the way the OEM lamp does.

Every reseller doesn't use the same specs when they put the lamp and housing together, some of the bulbs aren't always going to be up to the specifications of the OEM, but it will fit in and work.

The best tip I can suggest is to buy a lamp from a store with good warranty, so if something does happen after you bought it, you have some recourse.

    Sony KF-60WE610

    Hey Bry,

Judging by the picture of your television on Sony's site: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=KF60WE610&LOC=3

The IR sensor is right below the Sony emblem. If you're really curious you can find a site that offers service manuals and order one. It will get you schematics and tell you exactly where everything is.

Also, if you get everything up and running and decide you need to replace your lamp, check out xl2100u-lamp.com. I haven't ordered from there yet, but it looks promising.

    60 " SONY KF60WE610 screen went greenish

Depending on when you bought this TV, this could be the lamp. Does the red light below the green light come on? (That's the lamp light). This light typically comes on around the 3rd year of use for an average individual. I've recently enountered the same problem and will try to replace the lamp myself. Apparently its very simple.

    Sony KF42WE610 Picture

    Hi iverson_101

This could be a lamp issue. The easiest way to be sure is to take out th lamp and check for any irregularities on it e.g. white or black vein like looking marks , a buuble at the end of the shaft or a broken fillament.

If cannot spot anything this could rather be a Ballast ( lamp's powersupply ) that has gone faulty and will have be replaced.

Thanks for using Fixya and good luck !
