Hi,
Yes '4.21' is the PSP's preloaded firmware. You are wanting Custom Firmware (CFW), so you can avoid paying for the expensive games, I guess.
This is an extremely fraught process involving hacking the PSP's battery, downloading files like POPSLoader and CXMB which are, in turn, difficult to find, and perilously difficult to install without bricking your PSP, then you need to use 'Recovery' and 'CWCheat', and this is just the process of readying the PSP for use..
Then you have to be able to get games, and get them onto your machine. This is another process with many careful steps..

I suggest you go and find a PSP-modding forum and look at walkthroughs of the entire process before you even begin thinking about tackling this yourself. And if you still think it's possible for a PSP newbie to attempt this, then get reliable help from the forums or someone you know personally, who knows what they are doing.

Otherwise you'll end up with a brick!

I won't expand any further, my friend, because while Fixya! is wonderful platform for sharing tips and guidance, it is not a platform for the legally dubious community of software modders, or a place where you'll ever be advised to take questionable risks with your products.

So go check out the PSP-modding forums and check youtube for how-to-guides, if you wish, but, seeing as you asked me, I advise you to get someone experienced with this process to do it for you, or to just leave it alone.

By the rules of FixYa.com, I am not allowed to go into detail on how to put custom firmware on your psp. There are plenty of tutorial websites on the internet that you can get this information from. Try searching it on Google or your favorite search engine. You will get hits from all kinds of forums. Just remember, putting custom firmware on you psp voids your warranty through Sony.

If yoy want a bettermemory then purchase a spiral notebook.

PSP uses mp3 file format.
***FREE SOFTWARE
You need this software http://www.nch.com.au/switch/
Download and install it. Then open it and click "Add Files" choose the song from your cmoputer thay you want to put in your psps.
Select the ouput folder(where your converted song should go). Just change it to your desktop.
Select the Out Put format to mp3
Press the convert button
When it has finished converting the files, Connect your psp to your computer

***YOUR PSP DRIVE LETTER
On your computer, Go to Start---->My Computer then look for your psp. The C: and D: drives are usually for your cmoputer Harddrive and your CDROM. So none of them is your psp unless you dont have a CDRom then D: is your PSP. If you have CD ROM on your pc, then G: or E: will be your PSP Drive. Open it.

**COPYING CONVERTED SONG
Copy the converted song(.mp3) from your desktop to the folder called MUSIC on your psp .
If the folder "MUSIC" does not exist, create it then copy your converted song there.


NOTE** The easiest way to find your psp Drive Letter is to first open "My Computer" then
plug the PSP in and you'll notice that a new DRIVE LETTER has appeared. That Drive is your psp.

u probably have sticky stuff and dirt in the directional pad, try this:take the battery out, make sure the power is off, pour a little alcohol in the the crack of the directional pad, then press the directional pad in the different directions to loosen it up, finally let the psp sit for a few hours til the alcohol dries (or blow in it) that sould loosen everything up, if that does not work you will have to open the unit and clean the pad thorougly... I have the same problem.. I cant put YES on home and my R button isnt working either.. but I've noticed that if I push down the power button to the HOLD lvl and then put it again to the medium lvl it works like the R button -_-'' ..

From what i know about the PSP to read your ebooks it requires an active internet connection. And cannot be used without it on a stock psp without a little work. To get it to work i have found this webpage which outlines 4 different ways to get ebooks to work

Hi there. In order to do that, you will need to hack your PSP.

BEWARE, the hack might either completely stop your PSP from working or it can be successful which will then allow you to download games for free. NOTE: Hacking a PSP is illegal and the Warranty is instantly voided once the hack has been installed.

conect your psp in to computer look for drive g then right click exsploer then you will see the files ie music video games and so on can,t tell you how to do the games but can tell you just drag your music into music file and so on
