Get a CD Optic Cleaning disc. It has small brushes that clean the optics. The tracking laser is lower power and a little bit of dust will make it so that it can't read the tracks.

Try removing and replacing the battery in the remote , it may reset it or the drop may have damaged it .

Being 18 years plus old, spares were discontinued some 10 years ago. Genuine belts are no longer available only generic 'kits' of which will be the wrong dimensions or/and wrong tension. This will stop the idlers from moving freely.That is probably your issue.
