Threading Kenmore sewing machine 1168280
Found a picture of one on the internet because I don't own one, but have found consistencies among all machines regarding the threading path in all the machines that I have encountered as a Home Ec teacher in a number of textiles classrooms in two school districts. This one goes from right to left, from spool pin around that hook at top of machine, through the tension discs, down into the valley, up to the take up lever (make sure it is at the highest point), slide thread in and down to the thread guide (floss your teeth to get the thread in there) and through needle eye. Bobbin case is on the front so thread from front to back (needle groove will always face the bobbin and flat on head will face away unless it is 24x3 needle-your machine won't use those). (That knob at the back left, is for the bobbin tension when winding your bobbin.) And there are arrows on the plastic cover of your machine... Take your bobbin and put it on the table. Make it look like a P with the bobbin forming the loop and the thread the stick. Clap the bobbin case on top of bobbin and pick both case and bobbin up (might have to slide it to edge of table) and turn case over. There will be a slot. Put tension on the bobbin so it does not turn, and slide the thread all the way into that slot and out the opening. If bobbin case has a "finger" make sure it is up or opening where thread comes out is mostly up and snap into place. If your take up lever is up...still!..you should hear a click. Hold the lever on back of bobbin case out to prevent bobbin from dropping out as you insert into machine. Hold the spool thread lightly and wind the flywheel over the top away from you. You would be driving right if it was a steering wheel. And rotate the wheel once bringing the take-up lever all the way up and as it begins to come down, there will be a sweet spot and a light tug on the spool thread will bring a loop of the bobbin thread up from the bottom. Sweep your scissors under the presser foot to complete bringing the bobbin thread up. You should be ready to do a tension swatch after adjusting other settings on your machine. ...And yes this is how it sounds when I am teaching children to thread their machines during a demo. Kenmore 1781 won't feed fabric
Have you checked that the button/lever/switch for the feed dogs is engaged? Every machine has a button to disengage the feeddogs for free motion embroidery and darning. This may have been bumped and now they are disengaged. Happens frequently in classrooms when the little dears muck with the machine settings.
Kenmore surger wont surge
Does the machine stitch when you turn the hand wheel? Then the belt between the motor and the rest of the machine needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, I can't find the parts list for the 385.15751090. For a different Kenmore serger model, 385.16642090, the belt is no longer available. I suggest you ask your local sewing machine repair person if they have a source for the belt.

You need to clean both parts of the sliding contacts before you oil. Just using oil doesn't work. Did he use Water Displacement Formula 40 (WD40)? It tends to get used for everything. Good for cleaning, though, and then sewing machine oil to lubricate.
